As the Black Lives Matter movement remains at the social forefront, the Georgia State football team showcased a logo that combined the Georgia State Panther with black and white text reading “Black Lives Matter.” Sophomore Ethan Garner transposed the logo onto sweatshirts and masks, shown on blue and black material, and posted his prototypes onto Twitter. In three days, his post gathered more than 2,000 likes and almost 100 comments expressing interest in buying his product. When Garner stumbled across the photo posted by the football team, he was inspired to create BLM products for the Georgia State community. “I noticed the graphic on the Jumbotron and thought it would look kind of cool on a hoodie,” he said. “So, I decided to mock up what some potential merch could look like, and the student body seems to love it.” For more details, read the whole story by clicking the link in our bio. This upcoming fall semester will be one that students and faculty at Georgia State have prepared for but nonetheless are expecting the unexpected. Some have seen success with low infection rates, while others have been met with campus closure a week into the new semester. Most decisions about campus reopenings center around the student body, but professors also have concerns about the execution of COVID-19 safety precautions. Downtown Atlanta was once full of bustling city life, and it now stands still. Many had gotten used to the sound of cars whizzing by during lunch hour — working professionals and students alike scrambling to their favorite restaurants. Now, lunch hour is eerily quiet and the streets mostly bare. Only serving a fraction of their usual customer base, Downtown Atlanta’s restaurants struggle to stay afloat with the transition to take out and delivery orders only. Losing the last five weeks of business from Georgia State students when the spring semester was moved online prematurely due to COVID-19, made the transition even more challenging. After the emotional and financial damage of COVID-19, some found that their businesses could not survive the hit. Click the link in our bio to read the full story.
