COMMIE! by Joaby
(track list, not the cover art 😘)

MARCH 14th

Dropping on the anniversary of Marx’s death, this project is heavily inspired by my experiences living in Sacramento. I thought it was important to document the feelings that we’re all feeling right now and provide some sort of explanation from a leftist perspective. From using Martini, my chihuahua, as a metaphor for the struggles of forming and maintaining relationships while dealing with trauma on ‘The Parable of Martini’ to the revolutionary optimism on ‘Commie!’ this project aims to start a conversation within our city about what we can do and the role Hip Hop can play.

Big shout out to my collaborators @koffeethegreat @jazzisdeadmusic @mundogotnostyle @miguelrecendez @stephenesquivido @isaac_plays_trumpet

“built from” is the next single off my upcoming project Commie! (preview on the second slide)

This song is a tribute to the people who made my life and who I am possible. Don’t be okay with what it is and what it was, we gotta work for what it oughta be!

Dropping first on Bandcamp 1/24, all platforms 1/31!

Congratulations to the artists, performers, and creatives who make experiences like this possible.

First and foremost this post is a huge applause for @linasdarkroom who not only killed it with these opening day photos- and photographed everything I could never capture, but also showed up every step of the way.

Secondly, to @petervickland.author my partner in chaos and art, thank you for trusting my vision and bolstering my passion. You made this possible by making sure I was never alone in the labor, thank you.

Literally, Couldn’t have pulled this off without both of you.

There are so many people to thank (and a lot more great photos to share, I’ll get to more of you!) I just wanted to say that it’s many MANY wonderful people who collaborated and conspired to bring this together. I couldn’t be more proud.

Thank you to the exhibiting artists for sharing your passion and ideas,
