QUEER CINEMA x ESSM: The Way He Looks (2014) Grab your crush (or the friend you're secretly crushing on 👀), we're screening The Way He Looks, TEDDY Award winner and one of the tenderest coming-of-age films to ever bless a cinema screen ✨ Leo is 15, blind, and done letting everyone else run his life. Then Gabriel walks in, treats him like a whole person (revolutionary, we know), and suddenly first love looks a little different than Leo imagined. Overprotective mums, a bestie with her own secret feelings, and the pure chaos of being a teenager who's just trying to figure it out. This one's got all the butterflies 🦋 Before the film, we're honoured to welcome Jade Hu, Surinamese trans woman, medical student & community educator, for a short introduction on mental well-being, staying true to yourself, and honoring the voice inside you that deserves to be heard 💛 📅 Monday 21 September, 19:00hrs 📍 LantarenVenster

First off, sending the utmost love, respect and gratitude for the trans US veterans out there fighting to not be robbed of benefits they earned with 15+ years of laying their life on the line for their country. Like Odysseus, you served with good faith and deserve great things. Second, being trans vs cis isn’t a choice anyone gets to make, nor is it all someone is. Both trans and cis people are the doctors and nurses, professors, scientists, chefs, and frontline workers who keep our society running. Third, judging someone’s right to basic necessities and bodily autonomy based on their gender identity, sexual orientation, the color of their skin, is always a choice and never backed by evidence. Facts don’t care about your feelings and needless hatred for someone who is different from you :) Finally, @elliotpage if you see this, thanks for representing our community, my good sir 🙏 ❤️, 💾 and SHARE ✉️ — This world should be one where we judge heroes and villains by their character, not a label regarding their gender ✊ #transgender #ftm #ftmtransition #elliotpage #transmasc

A memento from a special evening: Last night I had the honor to deliver the keynote speech for the 2nd Dutch edition of Write2Unite organized by Papa Oyeyemi! It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and discover new ones. Congratulations to the awardees! The highlight of the night; my dear friend Dora being recognized for all the beautiful things she gives to our communities. As we celebrate Pride in Amsterdam, let’s us also celebrate everyone around us and fill the world with joy (not easy given current circumstances, but not impossible either). Happy Pride everyone! Luigi and Mina, thank you for the beautiful photos!

Last night our delightful creative producer @tuacakelly got honored at @salonmaxivive’s Write 2 Unite for her work and community impact with a beautiful letter written by @anakrojak alongside multiple trailblazers in our community. Each recipient also got a copy of our Queer & Feminist Poetry Anthology Vol. II so they always have a piece of Queer Joy & Gender Euphoria with them to continue doing their beautiful work. Thanks to @papaoyeyemi for this initiative and to the whole team!

Proudly sharing these images I shot for a project I did together with @shardae_so as a collaboration between @hotpeoplecareabout and @red.thepeople

Trans people are, and have always been, part of every society, through history and across cultures. Yet they continue to face discrimination, violence and barriers to essential healthcare. These challenges are fuelled by stigma, exclusion and policies that deny people the right to live safely and authentically.

That’s why for World Pride we partnered up to support the (BIPOC) trans community. We created two different tees. One in collaboration with Rotterdam-based artist and illustrator @seeyousioe and one in a classic Hot People Care About format featuring the statement: Hot People Care About Trans Rights.
Every purchase supports @transunitedeurope_ (TUE), an Amsterdam-based organization led by trans BIPOC advocates. 45% of proceeds from this drop go directly to TUE, funding critical initiatives including:
*   Improved access to trans-specific healthcare
*   Enhanced living conditions for trans communities
*   Strengthened HIV prevention and response efforts
TUE empowers and emancipates trans BIPOC communities through advocacy, support, and policy change at local, national, and international levels. Their work ensures access to sexual healthcare, provides vital support for trans sex workers, promotes economic independence, and fights for greater inclusion in European political frameworks.

All the beautiful models in alphabetical order: Alex Correia (he/him), Alma Aguilar Betancurt (she/her), Jade Hu (she/her), Johanna Sheferaw (she/her), Shari-Jae Ebere (she/her) and Sioe Jeng Tsao (she/her).

#rotterdampride #essmpride #lantarenvenster #queercinema #stichtinghumanitas
