This summer at @hammer_museum , I walked into a room filled not only with canvases, but with memory, with history, with love that refuses to end. My big cousin Noah Davis’ art show was not just an exhibition, it was a gathering of legacy, a living conversation between the past and the present, painted into being by his hand, and carried forward by his wife @karondavis with a devotion that is nothing short of extraordinary.

I remember his very first gallery show (slide 5), how I was there proud and wide-eyed, not knowing then the magnitude of what I was witnessing. To stand now, years later, knowing that his work hangs in museums across the globe, is to marvel at what can grow from a single spark of vision, tended with discipline, brilliance, and love.

My favorite pieces in this show carried the essence of faces that live in my own heart: his wife, Karon, luminous with both strength and tenderness; his father, my Uncle Keven, steady as ever; and my great-grandfather Paul R Williams, whose life was itself a monument to vision and endurance. To see them on those walls, rendered by Noah’s hand, was to feel that he has never left us at all…he has simply found another way to stay.

I went with my sisters, and together we stood as proud little cousins again, overwhelmed, hushed, remembering the young man we grew up alongside (slide 12) and marveling at the prolific legend he has become. The paintings reminded us that legacy is not only something we inherit, but something we are asked to tend, to nurture, to honor, to keep alive.

What struck me most was not just the brilliance of the art, but the love woven through it , love that Karon has safeguarded, offering it to their son, to us, to the world. It is rare to witness a legacy tended so fiercely, so beautifully, and rarer still to feel it echo inside your own bones.

I left full of pride, full of ache, full of gratitude. Noah’s legacy is not just in what he created, it is in the way he continues to bind us together, across generations, through memory, through art, through love that does not die. 💜
