Finally got the chance to see The Death of Robin Hood, and I can confirm it is very different compared to all the other Robin Hood films. If you're expecting a light-hearted, swashbuckling adventure film, think again! This is a reimagining of the legend that delivers a dark tone of the hero trying to come to terms with his sins, rather than a fast paced action film.

The plot follows an aged Robin Hood who is tormented by his past life of crime and murder. After becoming seriously injured by a battle which he thought would be his last, he takes refuge in a remoted island where he is nursed back to health and is offered a chance of salvation.

When I heard mixed things about this, I didn't expect it to be a perfect film. The cinematography was stunning, the first half really reeled me in, the score was perfect and the locations are beautiful, and it is brutal and unapologetically violent, but in a good way. But there are parts that felt slow and sluggish which may put some people off, but at the same time, I thought it was interesting and kept me engaged on what is going to happen next.

The performances were another highlight of the movie. Every actor did a great job but Hugh Jackman is the main standout as he delivers a strong performance as an aged Robin Hood. He makes the role look more believable and realistic while balancing the stoic personality and humour trying to leave a dark past behind while it keeps coming back to haunt him and aswell as expressing regret and seeking redemption before his time comes. It did remindsd me of his performance in Logan as there were some pretty depressing scenes and showing that he is not perfect and vulnerable aswell.

Overall, The Death of Robin Hood is an original fresh take on the classic hero that I thought was done well showing themes of atonement and self-forgiveness. It's not an action movie, but a portrayal of a man's life. It may not appeal to everyone, but If you are a fan of Robin Hood and lookng for something new, this is worth checking out. But don't expect a cheerful "steal from the rich and give to the poor" theme or else you will be disappointed.

He Was No Hero
