“Football, bloody hell” - Sir Alex Ferguson against Bayern Munich in 1999.

I feel like this quote sums up football perfectly, because it can go one of two ways, and somehow, it works for both.

This was probably the toughest season I’ve had in my entire football career for many different reasons.

Not every season will be defined by success. Some are defined by perseverance, by the courage to keep showing up and by the quiet strength it takes to continue giving your all when things are grim.

Football is more than a 90 minute game.

It’s about finding strength when you feel you have nothing left to give. Learning to embrace the uncomfortable, finding purpose in adversity and understanding that sometimes the greatest victories have absolutely nothing to do with the result.

Football is about the sense of belonging that comes from being part of something bigger than yourself.

It’s about the community it builds.

The darker moments this season were made indefinitely lighter by the people I had around me.

And when I say people, I mean the girls.

Somehow, every week despite there being every reason to give up, the squad continued to find joy in the little moments, brought laughter to the changing rooms and gave each other the courage to keep going.

Football doesn’t always give you what you want, but sometimes, in the most unexpected ways, it gives you something you didn’t know you needed.

Football, bloody hell.
