Chicago Marathon.
A finishing time could never capture what this medal actually cost.

People see 26.2 miles, but they didn’t see me lacing up my shoes after sitting with my dad through chemo treatments. They didn’t see the runs straight to the hospital or home just to see him, breaking down in the middle of my runs or the friends who showed up for me and didn’t let me run alone after he passed.

People ask me all the time if running is hard (maybe the side stitch I got at mile 3 that lasted the entire race) no, running isn’t hard, losing my dad is hard. Grief is a quiet, suffocating kind of heavy, the kind that hits you out of nowhere and makes you feel like your heart is too broken to keep carrying you forward. This training block forced me to keep moving one foot in front of the other, when I wanted to do anything but that.

I made it to the finish line, just like I promised Dad 🪽 I love you & I’ll miss you forever. I am so grateful I could run a victory lap where you were born 🤍
