Let’s meet… Lori Sam! She is office manager at Churchill Elementary School.

“I love my family—and we have a huge family. My mom had eight siblings, and out of those nine they had 40 kids. And that’s just on my mom’s side!” Sam said. “I also love coffee. I like to run. And I love video production. I did a video project in New York City over the summer.”

Let’s meet … Sigri Jobe! She is a nurse in surgical services at Mayo Clinic.

“I love being a nurse. When patients come in for surgery, they’re anxious and nervous and I really enjoy reassuring them, educating them, showing them I truly do care. At Mayo, the needs of the patient come first—the Mayo Brothers said that—and I feel my heart is so in line with that. I like to be there for patients and be a light. But as much as I enjoy being a nurse, I love being a mom and grandma more.”

Thank you @postbulletin_news for featuring me in your Arts & Entertainment section!!! I really appreciate it! Especially @johnsievers507 for his excellent writing skills and @jahlquist for the fabulous photos! ❤️

Here is their IG post, using Repost:
Julie Yost wears her art on her sleeve.

A textile artist who sews intricate and beautiful garments sometimes using recycled and untraditional materials, Yost is also known for using different dying techniques.

“I think we as a society need to get away from fast fashion and the desire to buy lots of cheap clothing made by people, frequently women and young people, who are paid poorly and work in unsafe conditions,” Yost said. “Fast fashion also takes a tremendous toll on the environment. I’m trying to show how focusing on the opposite — slow sewing, frugality and conservation of resources by using ‘old’ materials — is not just the right thing for our world but can be thought-provoking and stylish at the same time. I also enjoy the challenge of making clothes out of materials that were destined for the landfill.”

Kristin Haskins of Rochester knows she is lucky to be alive. So on Friday, May 31, 2024, she thanked the Rochester firefighters who saved her life.

“It’s been a long road, but thankfully I’m here,” said Haskins between hugs with firefighters.

On Feb. 18, 2023, Rochester firefighters responded to an emergency call at 525 Third Ave. NW. When first responders arrived on the scene, they found Haskins’ house on fire and thick smoke billowing from it.

“We found her very quickly and got her the help she needed as fast as possible,” Rochester Assistant Fire Chief Caleb Feine said. “Everyone knew the plan. Everyone knew what was going on.”

Moms have taken to Facebook recently to comment on the lack of availability of plus-size prom dresses for their daughters in the Rochester area.

One post that was initially posted anonymously in Spotted in Rochester, stated that the person couldn’t find more than one rack that had size 16-20 dresses. The poster said they had tried three stores in the area. Jess Olsen, mother of Tessanna, a 17-year-old junior at Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School, said her daughter looked incredibly sad after the experience. Jess Olsen said she was nervous about a negative response to the post.

Olsen tried three locations. Two stores didn’t have anything over a size 14 and the other only had a small rack for anything above a 16.

“She was kind of beaming, like excited,” Olsen said about finding the perfect dress.

Thank you to everyone that supported me and my work … what fun to feel like I’m doing work that matters to more people than just myself.

On Oct. 28, 2023, Jeff Zeiger’s heart went into cardiac arrest while exercising along the bike path at Cascade Lake.

Zeiger calls it one of the best things that ever happened to him.

“I think everybody should have a cardiac arrest or death experience — and wake up from it,” he said.

Zeiger is quirky in that way, but it adds to his story. The operative phrase is the last part. Zeiger just turned 69. The average life span for an American male is mid- to late 70s. Zeiger understands the math, that life beyond a certain point brings diminishing returns, and the moments that are left to him are precious. A brush with death reinforces that attitude. He has the attitude of a man reborn.
