This past Sunday, under blue skies, Morehouse College celebrated 578 graduates in its Class of 2026 as they became Morehouse Men. They persevered through challenges, and with each one they grew in knowledge, confidence, and resolve. They leave ready for the world, carrying both their academic training and the values that make principled leaders.

Valedictorian Yamir Richmond offered a poignant reflection on the habits of success. Chris Paul’s commencement address was clear: be a “6-3” person who goes above and beyond, not a “3-6” person who does just enough to get by. His reminder that legacy is defined by who we inspire is one our graduates will carry.

We recognized Dr. Keisha Tassie with the Vulcan Materials Co. Teaching Excellence Award and conferred honorary degrees on Chris Paul, Chris Womack of Southern Company, and our beloved dean, the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Carter Sr. All three are now honorary Morehouse Men.

The weekend held much more. We launched “Principled Leadership in Action,” our new presidential speaker series. Trustee emerita Billye Aaron and former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin set the tone for “Women Mobilizing for Morehouse,” and on Saturday I sat down with Chris Paul for an honest conversation on leadership in practice.

We honored our Golden Tigers of 1971 & 1976, with reunion classes dating back to 1956 and the distinguished Otis Moss Jr. ‘56 among us. We also inducted 40 students into Phi Beta Kappa, and at Baccalaureate, Rev. Dr. Winford K. Rice Jr. ‘14 brought a riveting word.

A weekend of this magnitude takes meticulous planning. My thanks to Academic Affairs, External Relations, Institutional Advancement, Strategic Marketing & Communications, Student Services, Campus Operations, Facilities, SodexoMagic, our student leaders, and the partners who collaborated for months to make it possible.

Morehouse is special because of the people who advance its mission every day. I am grateful for my first commencement as president. Thank you all.
