I went into the woods😍, then out of the woods🥲 with this group of GEMS.

It's hard to put into words how much this group of people and this experience meant to me. It was a gift to get to know every one of you and watch you in your element. I'm missing you all so much already.

One week ago today we closed this production and I miss these people so much. Thank you to this company, the visionary creative team, this extraordinary cast, this dedicated crew, these skillful musicians, and the beloved members of “The Commune”. Thank you @ericbrosen and @capeplayhouse for bringing us all together. Grateful for you all 🙏🏼💚

It’s hard to let go of this one. 17 years ago I produced INTO THE WOODS in a brilliant production directed by Moises Kaufman and it’s where I met my husband. And now I’ve closed my own production, brilliant if I do say so. In between, so much of my life has unfolded.
The score never leaves me - not a day goes by that I don’t quote it. It’s part of my heart. And this production, these actors and creatives and producing team and production staff and management - it will always be a part of me.
Closing night, Bo sat on my lap and as Javier Munoz and Erik Lochtefeld sang “No More” I lost it. I don’t cry often at closings but I did. And Bo looked back at me and smiled and I thought, this show is an instruction manual for life. All the joy and unimaginable sorrow and love and tragedy - passed from generation to generation in the musicality of living. What a thing Sondheim and Lapine created, to teach us these sacred mysteries from our collective unconscious. What a gift to be able to weave the spell at my beloved Cape Playhouse, which has become for me a true home. Sad to see this one enter into the Playhouse’s storied history, and grateful its ghosts will be in this beautiful place.

A very happy and heartfelt closing to Into The Woods. One of my absolute favorites to date. Thank you @ericbrosen and @rfrostmusic . Until we meet in the woods again! 🌲

Allow me to get soppy for a second. Just under a year ago, I left a very lovely admin job because I was feeling creatively unfulfilled and had the strong sense that I wouldn’t be truly happy unless I fully pursued my passion for directing and saw where that path brought me. It was a terrifyingggggg decision. Can’t stress that enough. I was in the rare 9-5 theater job that was full-time with benefits, and was choosing to give up that financial and emotional stability to start over and go balls-to-the-wall to get myself out there as a creative.

On the day I left my job, @thezingersoll gave me a handwritten note along with a custom card he made based on his favorite show, Into the Woods. It sounds corny (and it is!), but as two people who love musical theater, the show was the perfect metaphor about walking into the darkness of the uncharted future and figuring it out as you go instead of staying stuck. In the card was the quote “the difference between a cow and a bean is a bean can begin an adventure.” (Card on the last slide!)

So… it feels incredibly full circle that under a year later I had the opportunity to assistant direct this show, with these people, in a place I have loved since I was a little kid.

This experience really set the bar high for what lies ahead. Fell in love with this cast, crew, and creative team so fast. Thank you to everyone involved for the hard work, the lessons learned, and for turning this bean into the greatest adventure. 🫘
