“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” - Nelson Mandela 🇿🇦

This week, we kicked off the inaugural Eva M. Clayton Fellowship with fellows representing NC A&T State University and UNC-Chapel Hill.

During orientation, fellows learned more about the program, connected with NCBA directors and program staff, and began their journey as part of a growing leadership pipeline in North Carolina.

We are excited to support these emerging leaders as they build their skills and put their passion for community into action.

From powerful panels to meaningful conversations, the NC Black Summit left a lasting impact — and I got to hear firsthand how it impacted the 2026 Eva Clayton Fellows. ✨ I asked each fellow what stood out most to them during the summit and what message or lesson they’ll carry back to their communities. Their responses were thoughtful, inspiring, and rooted in purpose-driven leadership.

Take a look at what @jair_mac had to say about his experience ✨

Hosted by our Department of History and Political Science alongside our student organizations, the event showcased the very best of student professionalism through engaging lectures, dynamic seminars, thought-provoking discussions, and innovative research presentations.

Thank you to everyone who participated, presented, and supported our students, faculty, staff, and department. This is experiential learning in action.

Back to the Basics is committed not only to promoting physical activity in our community, but also to sparking meaningful conversations that support healthier living.

Our team members on college campuses are meeting their peers where they are—creating space for honest, memorable dialogue about wellness.

Are you having meaningful conversations with the people you’re connected to about your physical health? Sometimes one conversation is the seed that inspires someone to get back to the basics. 🌱
