The Dreaming of Butterflies 🦋

A journey through memories, imaginary friends, loss and transformation, brought to life through movement, drawing and performance.

Such a special experience to be part of this journey, from the first moments of improvisation to the final transformation into a butterfly.

I’m so grateful to Jairo Zaldua and Nicola Jane Green @jairozaldua for this wonderful collaboration, and to everyone who came and shared this evening with us. ❤️

“Angles of Exploitation”
- September, 2026.
- Multimedia
- 42cm (h) x 29.5cm (w)
- Unseen/Unexhibited work from the
artists collection

“Angles of Exploitation” explores the rigid power dynamics and human cost of the plantation system through stark visual contrast. It bridges the gap between abstract geometry and the raw historical reality of human exploitation.

- This multimedia work was deeply influenced by the brilliant artists @jairozaldua. If you don’t follow this creative double act yet you need to, their screen printing, collage and installations are pure inspiration.

A recent livestream of theirs sparked the initial idea for this pushing me to experiment with new elements and textures in my own style. It’s amazing how watching other artists create can open up entirely new doors in your own practice. Thank you Jairo and Nicola for the constant inspiration. Drop them a follow to see what they are working on next.

WELCOME ANNIE SHERBURNE!

Guild Member Rep Harriet @orlando_frames has been catching up with our newest members and went to meet Annie Sherburne last week. We are thrilled to welcome artist Annie to our community, as she curates Container 43—an exciting new show bringing together 27 artists. Meet Annie in person 24–28 September @espaciogallery 159 Bethnal Green Rd, London E2 7DG.

Annie’s journey spans decades: setting up her first stall at age 14, studying at Central Saint Martins and Goldsmiths, pioneering ecological textiles, and running a Columbia Road space alongside her late husband. Now, she is channelling that experience into a platform for others.

In her own words:

“While I continue to make costume jewellery and artwork myself, this space offers real opportunities for artists to show their work. From digital prints and tactile forms to fine beadwork and traditional academic painting, this inaugural show celebrates exceptional diversity and talent. It exists to build connections through the joy of creative expression.

Creativity is often treated as a luxury, but without it, we miss the richness of life. Art is like slow music: it lingers.

Making art is a calling, and artists need support from people who know what it takes to bring work out of the studio and into a space where audiences can engage, share, and appreciate it. We need audiences for art, music, and dance because sharing these experiences brings genuine joy. I am taking a leap of faith, and I hope people will support these artists by buying their work—that is how a community truly adopts its makers.”

Want to join in? Annie thrives on face-to-face connection and is looking for hands-on support. As she puts it:

“If anyone would like to help hang the show or invigilate with me, please join in! It will be fun, and it helps build a sustainable gallery! Let’s make Container 43 for everyone!”
