Not every championship is won by the flashiest backs. Some are won up front. Even better when you have both. The Shield Wall Award is a fan-made honor recognizing the strongest forward pack in Major League Rugby, the group that dominates the physical battle, wins territory, creates possession, and makes life miserable for opposing attacks. And in 2026, there was one obvious choice. The Hounds didn't just win the MLR Championship, their forwards consistently showed up at the front of the fight, producing across the major statistical categories that matter in the trenches. Defensively, Chicago's pack stood between opponents and the try line. Their work at the tackle, breakdown, maul, scrum, and defensive line prevented opponents from scoring, advancing the ball, and gaining valuable meters. Offensively, the forwards were just as important. They carried hard, won collisions, secured possession, generated quick ball, protected their territory, and created the platform their backs needed to attack. Every meter gained by the backs often began with the forwards earning the right to play in favorable territory. And the Hounds' pack wasn't merely a defensive wall, it could finish. 🏉 Theo Fourie — MLR Try Leader 🏆 Mason Flesch — Forward Player of the Year That's what makes a great forward pack: it doesn't just stop the opposition; it creates the conditions for its own team to score. The forwards are the foundation of everything that happens on a rugby pitch. They win the collisions. They secure possession. They protect the ball. They create momentum. They defend the line. They control territory. And when the game gets ugly? That's where the Shield Wall stands. Champions on the scoreboard. Warriors in the trenches. The Chicago Hounds.

His life has shifted gears, but his drive remains the same, steering the 24-year-old former South High football player to greatness on an elite level.
