NUTRIENT MARKET, risograph print for Gregory Herbert’s exhibition opening this Friday at CBS gallery, Liverpool.

NUTRIENT MARKET explores myco-heterotrophy, a type of plant that has learnt to cheat the system. Instead of photosynthesising, it draws energy and nutrients from nearby plants via a shared mycorrhizal fungal network.

The custom typography is inspired by shapes found in fungal networks. The letterforms were developed by looking at exploding contour shapes found in popcorn, while the textures derive from relief prints of mushrooms.
