POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Something really cool is brewing down in Austin, TX with @the_hook_songs , giving deserving songwriters an opportunity in front of an attentive audience, both in @sagebrushtexas , and online worldwide.

It’s about elevating the conversation about what a good song actually is, and lowering the barrier of entry for artists to be able to get on stage and get an opportunity.

You would think if you let ANYONE on stage, it might get ugly. But the opposite is what has happened. It’s exposed just how much incredible talent that’s out there that is NOT getting a fair shake.

The latest episode of The Hook (Episode 14) is now live on YouTube. The next taping happens Sunday, September 13th at Sagebrush in Austin. Come be part of the next cool thing in music.

Is Episode 14 of The Hook the best one yet? It’s pretty darn good, that’s for sure. SO MANY great songwriters, some unexpected surprises, and an appearance by a country music superstar ?!?

The latest episode of The Hook can now be seen in full on YouTube (you know where the l i n k is). THANK YOU to everyone who came and performed, or were part of the best audience in all of live music.

We especially enjoyed @lilydabbsmusic , @bethleemusic , and @sid_grimes representing the upcoming @texaswomensongwritersfestival .

Now, enjoy all the funny faces songwriters make when they emote.

Next Hook show is Sunday, September 13th at Sagebrush from 2:30-5:00. EVERYONE is welcome.

It was lucky number 7 for Jake Busby. But really, luck had nothing to do with it. Over seven great songs and performances, he’s become one of the most beloved characters on @the_hook_songs . On his seventh one though, he absolutely reared back for something extra, while delivering a murder ballad with a plot twist that put it over the top.

@arpaioescapee is officially The Hook’s latest Gold Patch winner, which means he can perform on the show at will. You can see his full performance and the aftermath on Episode 12 of The Hook now up on YouTube.

You can witness moments like this yourself Sundays at Sagebrush in Austin from 2:30-5:00. ANYONE can sign up, and you never know what’s going to happen.

The Hook is all about breaking down barriers and allowing ANYONE an opportunity to play a song in front of an attentive audience, a panel of experts, and a viewership worldwide. Along with established songwriters, The Hook has already found some songwriters that very well could be “next,” including multiple one who appeared on Episode 12, now up in full on YouTube.

THANK YOU to everyone who performed and came out to listen. Next show is Sunday, August 30th 2:30-3:00 at Sagebrush in Austin. Show up by 2:30 if you want a chance to play. EVERYONE is welcome.

This song and performance from @arpaioescapee on the last episode of The Hook became the favorite moment for many, not just because the song came with a great “hook,” but because of the discussion that ensued.

Co-host @caitlincannonmusic had some excellent feedback, and guest panelist @sarahgoldenmusic picked up how the song wasn’t about Jake Busby himself, which allowed him to be able to get up on a soap box in the best of ways.

Taking songs seriously, and understanding how they impact our lives and perspective is what The Hook is all about. The exchange between Jake Busby and the panel is the perfect example of that.

You can see the full performance and discussion on Episode 9 of The Hook now up on YouTube. You can also come witness great songs and discussions yourself during the next taping at @sagebrushtexas in Austin Sunday, August 9th from 2:30-5:00.

Folks, it’s really hard to put into words the kind of magic, music, community, and camaraderie that happens at Sagebrush on Sundays during The Hook. You really have to be there to appreciate it.

But if you can’t be, we tape the whole dern thing and post it on YouTube for songwriters and fans of songwriting from all around the world to enjoy.

Episode 8 is now live, featuring Grammy-winning producer and engineer Adam Odor as the special guest panelist.

It was another excellent showcase of songs with a few surprises. It’s worth every minute of your time if songs mean something to you.

We’ll be doing it all again on Sunday, August 2nd from 3:00-5:00. EVERYONE is invited, from spectators, to first-time songwriters, to touring performers, from country, folk, pop, hip-hop, we don’t care. No rules, no script, no gatekeeping, just an honest conversation about songs. Come be a part of the next cool thing in music.

It’s really hard to put into words what’s happening with @the_hook_songs . It’s hard to communicate the magic that’s happening in @sagebrushtexas every Sunday without being there. The videos and clips do help, but nothing does it justice.

We started this thing out thinking since we let ANYONE get up and play, we would inevitably get some really bad songwriters and performers. Instead, the level of songwriting and just sheer talent has been gobsmacking at times.

There’s so much talent out there skirting under the radar as so much mediocrity get elevated. If nothing else, The Hook is proving that on a weekly basis.

THANK YOU to everyone who has been a part of it so far. You can watch the latest Episode 7 on YouTube. Episode 8 recorded on Sunday will be up soon. We’ll be taping a new Episode at Sagebrush in Austin on Sunday, August 2nd from 3:00 to 5:00. Stop by if you can to see what all the hubbub is about.

Also, that’s @arpaioescapee and his infamous mullet—one of the numerous songwriters who’s emerged as one of the beloved characters of The Hook who is there on a weekly basis, sharing badass songs the world deserves to hear.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part in growing the next cool thing in music.
