If you had told me years ago that talking about therapy on the internet would eventually lead to conversations with members of Congress, I would have been very confused. 😅

This week @seansaintlouis and I attended the first-ever Creator Caucus in Washington, D.C. with @youtube.

It was fascinating to see how much the creator economy has grown…from something many people didn’t consider a “real job” to an industry that’s creating businesses, jobs, educational resources, and communities that reach millions of people.

As a therapist, I was especially grateful for the chance to talk about the positive impact digital spaces can have when they’re built around education, connection, and accessible information.

Also, there was something pretty surreal about walking through the halls of Congress after spending years filming videos in my office and talking to all of you online.

Thank you to @youtube for bringing creators together and creating space for these conversations. 💙

Still not sure “mental health YouTuber goes to Capitol Hill” was on anyone’s bingo card…but here we are.

Falconry, fireworks, majestic nature, delicious food, a karaoke machine in the drawing room of an old Scottish castle… a 3 day extravaganza that has forever redefined weddings for me. But most importantly, friends who showed up and committed to the bit from start to finish. Congrats @jakerawr and @sophiaisashin for an epic wedding and for gathering a lovely crew of weirdos around you. You are very loved 🥰

A big win for the creator economy 🇺🇸✨

After years of behind-the-scenes advocacy, we have officially launched our Congressional Creators Caucus — a historic, bipartisan effort to support and protect digital creators.

Since 2021, Kati and I have been flying to D.C., meeting with members of Congress and the Senate, policy advisors, and tech leaders to explain what it actually means to be a creator today. For us it looks like this:
🎥 Small business owner
🧠 Mental health advocate
🎓 Educator
💼 Job creator
📍 Viewers in every congressional district

Last week, alongside some incredible creators and members of their respective teams — MrBeast, Pokimane, Mark Rober, The Fitness Marshall, MatPat & Steph, and more — we stood shoulder to shoulder with Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY) and Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) as they officially launched the first-ever Creators Caucus.

This is about :
✅ Fixing outdated tax codes
✅ Access to insurance & funding
✅ Recognition as high growth businesses
✅ Ensuring creators have a voice in policy going forward and so, so much more to come!

“Congress must meet this moment, Creators deserve a seat at the table.” said Rep. Clarke.
“The Congressional Creators Caucus seeks to empower more Americans to follow their dreams, build their own small businesses, and share their unique perspectives with the world,” said Rep. Van Duyne. “The Creators Caucus hopes to bring better understanding to how these developing small businesses are operating, what struggles they face, and how Congress can work with them to foster growth, opportunity, safety, and security for our digital creators and their viewers alike.”

🚀 The creator economy powered over 390,000 full-time jobs in 2022 and is on track to top $500 billion by 2027.

This is only the beginning — and we’ll keep showing up until every creator is seen, heard, and supported.

Get ready Washington...here we come!

After two years of work, Steph and I have just launched the Creator Economy Caucus in the House of Representatives, a bipartisan group where creators can work alongside lawmakers to ensure legislation is timely and relevant for all of us online...aka, no more cringey memes of Congress asking about getting poked on Facebook.

Our goal? To make ensure creators are respected and seen as the legitimate businesses that they are to ensure that this ecosystem thrives for decades to come.

It's time the for the government to catch up with where the economy is now...and we're helping to do that. And momentum is strong! In just one day, we've already got ~10 reps who understand how important this is. And we're just getting started.

We'll eventually want to assemble creator advocates from around the country, so if you're interested in helping Washington understand our world, stay tuned here for more info!
