The most chaotic 36 hours of our lives.

We were driving down the mountain headed to LAX to go to Spain when all of a sudden it starts down pouring. I remember looking over at Jake and saying, wow I just love these monsoon storms we get here in the mountains. Then we see a sign that we have never seen before, ā€œturn around don’t drownā€ we both think it’s strange being in the mountains how would we drown?

Seconds later we come across some mild debris in the road but think little of it. Then cars start turning around and man tells us we need to turn around because there are trees down up ahead and it’s impassable. We quickly turn around and start heading back up the mountain when all of a sudden we see a massive mud slide happen right in front of us. We freak out, turn around again and realized us and 10 other cars, including one cal-trams vehicle, are stuck between two massive mudslides.

We all instantly start calling 911, cal-trans, and everyone we can think of who can help us get out of this situation. In the moment, we didn’t know if we were gonna get any help. We continued to call 911 and got no word on when they were going to help us. We got trapped @2:30pm and they finally came with 2 loaders and got us out @12am. Then we waited as they worked until 4am when we finally got out.

It was the scariest experience of my life, knowing we were just seconds away from being washed away in the mudslide.

We missed our flight to Spain but that was the least of our worries in the moment. Our flight was non-transferable so we had to rebook and repay for a new flight 😭

Making it to Spain seems wild after all of that but we sure have a story to tell.

Now in just a few days, it’s time to RACE @ranxogravel
