'The Stone Totems' by Andy Lewis @jalsculpts

Monumental Kansas limestone sculptures inspired by Egyptian imagery and carved in the relief style of ancient Maya stonework. Ranging from 4 to 6 feet tall, each totem tells the story of a different political era through symbols, figures, and visual language designed to endure. A history carved in stone that could still be deciphered thousands of years from now.

See The Stone Totems at Art City, open Wednesday–Sunday, 10 AM–5 PM.

For more information, contact Andy Lewis at @jalsculpts.

I hitched a ride over yonder
To that place with them stones
And the carvings
That seem to be growing
From the ground, white as bone
I looked through the fence
Positioned my lens
As far as I could retrace
And snapped a memory
A time stamp of space.

Now showing in the Art City Gallery! An incredible exhibit of works by Art City Artists Mike Tiné & Andy Lewis @jalsculpts
•
Open Wed - Sun 10a-5p & by appointment
•
The beautiful brightly painted tapestries by Mike Tiné were influenced by his beloved daughter @kangakult
•
Andy Lewis’s Limestone Sculpture Collection ‘Apocalyptic Free Speech :US History 2001-2021’
spans twenty years of three presidents , using symbols and figures to tell of events and participants in each of the three’s administrations .

The inception came to Andy after the creators of South Park , Trey Parker and Matt Stone had money offered upon their deaths ,for offending religious zealots .

Recycled Kansas limestone fence posts were chosen as the medium to best convey this story and how it relates to our history , and the history of future generations .

The greatest civilizations on the planet wrote their history in stone , and Andy has chosen to record small portions of ours , using images as modern as today’s animators and ancient as the Egyptians and the Mayans .

See it at Art City!
