🦴🇺🇸 Withdrawal symptoms 🇬🇧🫠

You’ve all seen the news, the US has withdrawn all of its bombers from RAF Fairford, the UK military base at the centre of an incident being investigated by counter terror police.

A statement from a Pentagon official confirmed on Sunday the US has removed its bombers following a major incident on 27th September when police were alerted to three ‘suspicious vans’ near the airbase.

After 7 months of seeing these beasts roar through the skies, by the end it was almost easy to take the B-1s for granted because it became such a regularity, but from the time Epic Fury started, it gave the opportunity to catch no less than 19 B-1s, 10 B-52s, 12 F-22 Raptors, countless support flights and more in action!

Perhaps then, an opportunity to reflect and consider the pace at which things unfolded, March back where the build up began, the chaotic parking and subsequent parking wardens, my fleeting appearance on Sky news (if you know you know!) the erection of privacy screens along the fence, the build up of airframes and Enterprise rental vans, the first live bombing missions, the Ramstein diverts due to fog and excitement of a Nellis WA tail arriving, bombers casually flying over other events and residential estates on live missions, being glued to flight tracking apps looking for tankers as a sign something might happen.

As months moved on, we went from Misty March to the Summer heatwaves, the eventual cancellation of RIAT, the F-22s briefly staging on returning from the Middle East, fragile Iranian US ceasefires, but the build up of ordinance around the base and flights over the South West continued.

There’s obviously more happening behind the scenes than we ever see from the fence line, and recent events are a reminder of that.

But as an aviation enthusiast, witnessing all of this unfold from outside the fence over the last 7 months and meeting likeminded people has been absolutely incredible.

Now that the Lancers have gone… anyone else already missing them? 👇
