BAGEL IS SAFE. ❤️🥯

After more than two years in the shelter system—and at least another two years before that living in a homeless encampment—Bagel finally has something he may have never truly had:

A safe, long-term place to rest his head.

Bagel has a long-term foster AND Shelter Street Dogs has officially stepped up as his rescue. ❤️

This one took a village.

Bagel has been loved at West Valley. Loved at West LA. Loved by his friends at Big Dog Energy. Loved by his Dogs Behind Bars community. Loved by volunteers who walked him, took him on Dog Days Out, advocated for him and refused to let years in a kennel make him invisible.

And when Bagel was running out of time, that village got LOUD.

People shared. Called. Emailed. Tagged rescues. Contacted friends. Contacted friends of friends. Donated to keep him safe. Bought him more time.

We needed ONE rescue willing to look at Bagel’s entire story—not just his history—and see the dog he is today.

Shelter Street Dogs said YES. ❤️

And someone else said yes to giving him the long-term foster home he desperately needed.

Bagel spent years being a dog who belonged nowhere, while somehow becoming a dog who was loved by people everywhere.

And now, finally, he gets to rest.

🥯 IMPORTANT — BAGEL’S PLEDGES & DONATIONS 🥯

If you made a pledge for Bagel, NOW is the time to honor it! Please send your pledge directly to Shelter Street Dogs, the rescue that stepped up and said YES to Bagel. ❤️

You can donate directly through:

💙 Zelle: shelterstreetdogs@gmail.com
💙 Venmo: @shelterstreetdogs
💙 PayPal: @shelterstreetdogs
💙 Cash App: $shelterstreetdogs

If you didn't make a pledge but would like to celebrate Bagel's rescue with a donation, please consider sending one. Supporting the rescue that stepped up for him helps make saying YES to dogs like Bagel possible.

To everyone who shared, donated, advocated, transported, walked him, loved him or simply refused to stop trying:

WE DID IT.

After all these years, Bagel finally has somewhere safe to rest his head.

This one took a village.

And Bagel had one hell of a village. ❤️🥯🐾

15 months… That’s how long Ronda has been waiting at the West LA Animal Shelter.

15 months of kennel life. 15 months of noise. 15 months of watching people and dogs come and go while volunteers do everything they can to remind this sweet girl that she is loved. 🤍

Naturally, after this long in the shelter, Ronda is stressed, overwhelmed, and ready to get out.

And honestly… who wouldn’t be?

But once she feels safe, you see a very different side of her. Ronda loves her people, is incredibly affectionate, and is happiest staying close to someone she trusts.

She’s a smarty pants too…She knows sit down AND shake 😍

Ronda does have some barrier reactivity (which isn’t uncommon in the stressful shelter environment), but she has also successfully participated in several group pack walks, parallel walks and regularly attends playgroup. She’s been described as a push & pull player—steerable, playful (sometimes a little obnoxious 😜), and appropriately communicative with her dog friends.

Recently, Ronda got a much-needed break from the shelter over the 4th of July weekend. 🥹

In just four days, she became noticeably more confident on walks—freezing less, crossing streets more willingly, and beginning to sniff and explore her surroundings.

Inside the home, she was sweet and affectionate, with no concerning reactivity toward people or dogs. She still has things to work on, including house training and confidence around sudden noises, but she showed us that 15 months in a shelter doesn’t have to define the rest of her life.

We even got her a @wisdompanel DNA test 🧬 — peep the comments for her results!

After 15 months, Ronda deserves someone willing to give her the time, patience, and safety to finally be a dog again.

She deserves more than temporary breaks from the shelter.

She deserves a home. 🤍

Please share Ronda. We really, really want her next chapter to be somewhere other than West LA Shelter.
