Lovely couple of days in Liverpool attending the John Moores Painting Prize PV - and parties…. Very enjoyable and a privilege to be included in this survey of Contemporary British Painting. The show runs from today through to late February 2024. Thanks to Magdalena Gluszak-Holeksa for allowing me to re-post her image of he Walker facade.

The last week of my show @jamesfreemangallery is about to begin and I would like to show this work from that exhibition. It is not only one of the "youngest" portraits in my series, it is also perhaps the coolest. The sitter must have been an unusual and impressive man, someone who uncompromisingly supported the contemporary culture of Poland in the 19th century and had an incredible collection of Japanese art which you can see clearly in this portrait. I took this flamboyant morning gown as an opportunity to once again point to other forms of masculinity and created this playful mask with a large bow for him. What is particularly important to me this time is that this mask is also completely natural and does not change anything about his masculinity. A bit Harry Styles-like, you can leave the well-trodden path of a manly visuality without it appearing ridiculous. So, guys, go for it!

I cover the faces in different ways, but I do not add anything from the outside to the paintings. I only reshape individual elements of the painting itself, taking into account the special characteristics of the painting. The Hidden Portraits are a contemporary view of art history, of paintings as part of representation. I hide individuality behind the magnificent surfaces and try to incorporate a contemporary discourse on codes of clothing and society into historical paintings.

After two years on the @cardiff_ma_ceramics_maker program, I’m in the last weeks of putting my contribution to our MA show together. It’s been a wild ride for me, exploring new territory and ways of being in the world and I’m looking forwards to sharing my findings with you.

The excitement before London is growing and I'm glad that this work is also part of my exhibition. With the title "RUFF HOOD" she simply couldn't be missing. These ruffs were just incredible and I love to let the sitters sink into them. This is a very special piece for me, created for my solo exhibition RUFF HOOD @jamesfreemangallery in London, which opens June 15th. I'm very grateful and incredibly pleased that through the kind collaboration with @philip_mould_gallery we are able to show the original from about 1620 alongside my work. Gosh, this is breathtaking and I'm very excited, because I really love this portrait. It's not just the beautiful flowers on her linen dress that contrast with the precious black of her gown. It's the gold embroidery that entwines the flowers and is dotted with glittering sequins. She must have glittered like a treasure chest as she walked. I have now given her a floral hood that accentuates the pattern and wraps her up like a precious gift of summer. Additionally, I've sprinkled a few sequins around her like stardust, which makes everything move. It's like a metaphor that portraits, despite the need for representation, always depicted living people, which is one reason why I'm so touched when I encounter them.
