POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Juan Rulfo was little known when he published El Llano en llamas [The Burning Plain] in 1953. He was a voracious reader and a sharp observer of the Mexican condition. These qualities would serve him well as he began writing short stories set mostly in and around the Llano Grande —the burning plain (or llano) of the title— located in his home state of Jalisco, Mexico, a region acutely affected by hardship and by the violence of the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920) and the Cristero Revolt (1926-1929). The ideals of the Revolution provided a useful —and often romanticized— narrative in the decades that followed as many Mexican intellectuals, politicians, and artists worked to forge a common identity that might unite a divided nation. Join us for an evening of dancetheater with original compositions. #houstonartists #letcreativityhappen #crossdisciplinary #houstoartsalliance #narrativascorporales

It has been a delight to work in this cross disciplinary project. Rulfo wrote in 1952, El Llano en Llamas, a short story collection whom grittiness and style enabled to become a classic. Rulfo made the stories centered mostly around death and people in rural parts of Mexico. #crossdiscipline #theater #dance #originalsoundscore #literature #juanrulfo #elllanoenllamas #houstonartists #houstoncreatives #unam #unamsanantonio
