🧯Hot on the tail of his extraordinary debut solo exhibition with Sullivan+Strumpf earlier this year, we are delighted to present a series of bright, bulbous, gloopy ceramic works by James Lemon at Sydney Contemporary next week.

Lemon's works reflect his humour, gestures and broader social and philosophical concerns. His colourful, highly textural and sometimes slapstick works include references to religion, pop culture, insects and global ceramic forms. While he primarily works with clay, he often embeds other objects such as bricks, precious stones and discarded ephemera to develop his expressive, sculptural vernacular.

Pictured (1-3): 'don't touch anything here', 2023, stoneware, kiln bricks and glaze, 59 x 23 x 24 cm; 'agreeable elite', 2023, stoneware and glaze, 54 x 32 x 32 cm; and 'I kinda can't believe it', 2023, stoneware, kiln bricks and glaze, 58 x 24 x 23 cm.

💥 ‘Sphexishness' is now open at our Eora/Sydney gallery and online via the viewing room!

Lemon speaks of his relationship to the objects as “…intense but kind of blurred. I like them to incarnate a sense of mystery and intrigue.” Each work in ‘Sphexishness’ is imbued with a sense of the eternal and the finite, reminding us of a looming finality with a wink.

Join us tonight at our Eora/Sydney gallery for drinks with both artists behind our current exhibitions, James Lemon and Lindy Lee. We look forward to sharing these works with you!

I’ve literally been DYING to share this with you, and now that I have sadly passed away, I can ☠️ For the last few months I’ve been working on my largest work to date for @acehotel @acehotelsydney curated by the hotties at @flackstudio_. ‘Brick facade’ 2022, is made entirely from various decommissioned kilns and wraps around the concierge desk. It’s a 5m long work made from over a 100 individual painted and glazed bricks. Mammoth babes. I’m rather stoked to finally be able to share this with you. This work wouldn’t have been possible without the ongoing support from the Flack team ❤️love you, Ace ❤️love you, and @usfromspace ❤️LOVE you. Shots of the finished space are taken by @smartanson and studio shots are @annikakafcaloudis. A full program of the artists features in the upcoming @vogueliving next month. Bless you, love you all, and go stay at Ace it’s literally so gorj 💔

Close up details of FOND

FOND challenges the functionality of the domestic landscape by pushing the idea of slow craft where beauty and pleasure take a central focus. The entirely hand crafted collection by ceramicist @tantrimustikaceramics and textile designer Megan McNeill aka @trinketsolo is
a lighthearted rebellion against
fast-paced consumption and aims to spark a connection between the maker and the materials. "We wanted to make our dream interior a reality and make
the process and end result about beauty, joy and a sense of fondness over a practical purpose”, say the pair. Mustika and McNeill have been friends for almost fifteen years and have been waiting for the opportunity to finally collaborate on a project. "Celebrating traditional techniques is a primary focus in both of our practices, so we hope the
installation fosters a greater appreciation between the audience and handcrafted products".

You can view FOND through the shop window this week or to get up close, visit FOND during the following times:

Friday 11am-5pm
Saturday 11am-4pm
Sunday 11am-4pm
