Building Stronger Runners
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m kinda blown away by all the supportive comments and messages on my most recent YouTube video, where I talk about my renewed focus and sub-3 marathon goal. It’s a huge ask, but I know that the process of chasing the goal is what’s going to make the biggest difference to my health, both physically and mentally… regardless of outcome! It’s about the journey not the destination.

We finally did it 👰🏻🤵🏻💍💐

At the 4th attempt, @polefreaks and I finally got married last week!!

We had a lovely intimate ceremony with our nearest and dearest at Norwich Castle, followed by an absolute feast at @theivynorwich.

If you know Holly at all, you know I'm a very lucky guy for snagging this one!

I love you 🐒

HOW OFTEN DO YOU “JUST RUN”?

Wet one today! 60min pacing by feel. Ignoring HR and pace, trying to instead focus on keeping a low perceived effort 🏃🏻‍♂️

First run after 5 really rough days. Feels good! Sessions like this are really important to me as I don’t want to become overly reliant on the data. Hate simply running by numbers! Don’t get me wrong… the data helps us improve, but it can’t be allowed to come at the expense of us connecting with how we feel from one run to the next.

Funny how one day your legs can feel like lead weights and the very next day you can feel a real spring in your step 😆

Today’s 60 minute run felt great in comparison to yesterday’s short but arduous slog.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s MAF test (weather permitting) to monitor my progress 🏃🏻‍♂️

2hr run to finish a big week 🏃🏻‍♂️

First 50 mile week in a LONG time ✅ Although I’m actually more interested in hours of running per week.

Body feels good but am taking an easier week this coming week, as I finish out the “every day in April” challenge. Legs are feeling much stronger for this little streak!

Next month, I’m going to be running 5-6 days per week and trying to build consistency with running 6-8 hours per week.

How’s your #running weekend been?

Ten miles done ✅ Lovely run by the water this morning. Main focus was to keep the heart rate below 1️⃣3️⃣5️⃣ bpm. Really enjoying this base building phase I’m in right now. Putting some miles in the legs this month, for the first time in a long time! Great thing about keeping the pace nice and easy is that (for the most part) I’m waking up good to go again the next day 👌 That’s always a good sign that you’re #running easy enough! 🏃🏻‍♂️

Did YOU run today? Tell me about it...

Sixty minutes running at MAF heart rate DONE ✅

Beautiful afternoon for a run in the sunshine 🏃🏻‍♂️☀️

Running every day in April is going well so far. Although I won’t lie, I’m looking forward to hitting a more sustainable schedule in May. Going to be running 5-6 days per week from May until the end of this base building block.

The whole “every day” thing is more about rebuilding the habit of running for me, rather than being a sustainable schedule!

How’s your #running week going?

PROGRESS REPORT 📈

Today I’m 3 weeks in to this block of low HR training (modified Maffetone). I wanted to use today’s run to see if I could spot any progress...

Same exact route at my 1st April run, similar weather etc, and I’m pleased to report that for the exact same average heart rate (133bpm) my average pace today was 00:14/km (00:22/mile) FASTER!! 🎉

Small improvement... but in 3 weeks that’s great. Pumped to keep working hard through the rest of this 20 week base building block.

10 miles keeping HR below 1️⃣3️⃣5️⃣bpm ✅

Longest run since last summer believe it or not 🙈 Felt really strong throughout. Lower third of right medial tibia feels slightly tender (2/10 if pressure applied directly, no pain running), but that’s pretty normal for me in a phase of rebuilding volume. Will monitor it!

How was your weekend?
