POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is stop at a museum, a library, or a black owned bookstore. I don’t care what city or country I’m in, I want to see what they’re reading and what stories they’re preserving.

And babbby NOLA has a gem!

Community Book Center @readcbc in the 7th Ward is so much more than a bookstore. It’s one of those Black spaces that just feels good to be in. Books from some of my favorite authors, (like @jameswrites615) postcards, bookmarks, art, history and just Blackness everywhere.

And y’all know me. I just love Black shh!!t.🤭

But what really made me love this place was the people. Mama Jennifer and the staff treated me like fam. I got book recommendations, good conversation and wanted to look at everything in there.

These are the Black spaces I want us to keep supporting. Places where our books are on the shelves, our stories matter and you can walk in as a stranger and leave feeling like you’ve been there before.

If you’re ever in New Orleans and want a good read or just a good vibe, pull up to Community Book Center. Go see the staff, buy a book, grab a bookmark, buy something and support this beautiful Black space.

Booked By Que approved.

P.S. I didn’t get a picture of the outside, but I wanted y’all to see what it looked like, so I borrowed one.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and showed us so much love at @blackexpollence. Our family walked into the weekend with heavy hearts after experiencing a loss, and the joy we were surrounded by was a gift. Grateful does not cover it. Love my people.❤️🖤💚

Here is a great example of applying action to theory!

@jameswrites615 , who is the author of three wonderful books, is continuing to showcase his love for education by offering 5 scholarships to students studying African studies at an HBCU. This is a wonderful idea to invest in our future leaders and to help eliminate college debt. Please assist this initiative by donating to the scholarship as well as encouraging students who fit the criteria to apply.
