You send your debut to a writer you’ve admired for years and hope for the best. Here’s what @jamiefordofficial sent back about The Farther Shore.

A naturalist vanishes into a South African forest in 1905. Thirty years later the son he abandoned finds his father’s research twisted to justify race science, and has to journey home to stop it.

Out October 20. Link’s in bio. #debutnovel #thefarthershore #literaryfiction #historicalfictionbooks #bookstagram

Reading setup Sunday.

This is what most of today has looked like; between being awake from 10 to 2 last night and a lovely antihistamine dose, I've just been hanging out (and admittedly scrolling), just trying to keep my eyes open long enough for actual bedtime to arrive!

What and where did you read today?

I love fall shopping in Seattle. The leaves are just starting to change color, the summer crowds have cooled down and there is always a cool cafe nearby to grab a matcha or latte. And also have you heard of @Seattlerestored ? It’s a program in Seattle that fills empty spaces in our city with temporary pop-ups like collective shops, food and art spaces to help revitalize neighborhoods and our economy.
The 5 shops in my reel are all part of Seattle Restored and I didn’t know much about them before I was invited by my friend Sydney from @gossip_glamour to go check them out. I thought I would spend an hour or two total driving and popping into each one but I ended up spending a whole day toodling around the city on the loveliest adventure getting lost in nearby stores and museums too.

Beside @noirluxe I found at @jinjinmatcha an adorable and truly almost hidden city gem and @ichigoalley a new @seattlerestored business that just opened as well!

@ohanhoi and @titabunco are walkable to each other and by @panamahotelseattle (have you read @jamieford ‘s book Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet?) also I tried @ohanhoi cookies this summer because of @intentionalist_ and I spotted @chroma.rex (and maybe even Irene) while I was at @ohanhoi chatting with Sydney too

@throwbacksnwcollective is near @klondike_nps_seattle in Seattle’s @pioneersquare and @occidentalfinearts a gorgeous free museum I had no idea existed in the area either

@scarabajo_botanical Atenas is so joyfully sparkly in real life and has the most gorgeous natural textile dying shop tucked away on 3rd (I follow her Instagram and I so want to take a class! They’re currently all booked up! Be careful not to drive on 3rd it’s reserved for buses and emergency vehicles)

And there are more @seattlerestored businesses around our city too. Make sure you check opening/closing times before you visit. But did you know we had this in Seattle?

When I started touring two years ago to bring the stories of trans youth to as many communities as possible, it was out of a recognition that those of us with privilege have a duty to use our platform to speak for those with less power than us, especially vulnerable, marginalized children. For me, that will always include Palestinian children. I want a world where trans kids don’t live in fear because I want a world where no child has to live in fear.

My solidarity and love to the children of Gaza, and to young people everywhere forced to struggle for their literal survival in this cruel world.
