FRACTURED BODIES (2021)

Fractured bodies (MDX), is a workshop/performance particularly focusing on amplifying the marginalised voices of the LGBTQIA+ community, this was made as part of an exam for Middlesex University.

Collectively, as a company of seven, Jamie, Diana, Filipe, Alyssa, Karolina, Sara and Valter, we all have our own experiences or identify within the LGBTQIA+ community, and/or as allies with close friends or siblings identifying within the term.

Our aim is to amplify the marginalised voices of the LGBTQIA+ community by taking the participants on a journey through three separate centuries: 1800’s, 1900’s, 2000’s. With this we will allow unheard voices throughout history to be heard, and signify the similarities and the
differences throughout these times.

The LGBTQIA+ community will go into this knowing a lot of the information already, but perhaps will learn something new. The straight, middle class society who perhaps are indifferent and think everything is accepted now in 2021, we hope, will learn a little about the history of their friends, and learn that all is still not right in the world when it comes to these voices and in fact there are still similarities in how their voices are still not heard as they were two centuries ago.

Our company is sensitive to the fact that everyone will enter this installation with preconceptions of the history of the community as well as their own personal history, and we aim to open a dialogue to not necessarily make people understand, but to allow them to open their minds and discuss what they saw, heard, and felt, with as much freedom and safety to express themselves as the LGBTQIA+ strive to have.

Our Calm Slam shortlist continues with a poem by Jamielee Hogan, an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance making, performance art, acting, and poetry. Their emerging work is centred on integrating live art and spoken word, with a particular focus on how strategies of live art can shape the creation and delivery of performance poetry.

✨ Unforgotten Wrongs ✨ Part of the Fresh Festival

"Some say the lines between right and wrong have not always been blurred throughout history

Many voices have been silenced …stories that were long buried can leave open wounds in society.

…we have not forgotten their names nor the injustices of history.

These are their stories!"
