Nipsey Hussle has been a huge inspiration to me, both before and after his passing. As a Black man and a business owner, I’ve always admired his mindset, his ambition, and what he represented. I’m seriously considering painting a mural of him in my new studio because when I think of Nipsey, I think of progress. I think of ownership, growth, and building something bigger than yourself. And I think about what it means to define success and happiness on your own terms. That’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot throughout this journey of opening my own studio. Creating my own version of success, doing something I love, and building a life that makes me happy. I think having him on the wall would be a constant reminder of that. The marathon continues. 🏁

Almost every culture, even the ones we don’t think ever interacted, practiced tattooing or some form of body modification. That’s not random. I think it’s one of the things we all share. The pain is part of it, it makes it a ritual, and even people who don’t get tattooed can usually understand that on some level.

There’s a lot of ritual missing in modern life, especially here in the U.S., and I think tattooing fills that for a lot of people. I don’t judge anyone who chooses to numb up or go a different route, but that’s not why I do it. I feel like I earn every tattoo I get, and my clients earn every tattoo I give. It’s more than money, it’s the ritual and the art that defines us. Without that, I don’t think tattooing would’ve echoed through different cultures and lasted the way it has.
