*** PUPS. HOT DOGS. ART. COMMUNITY. This is what showing up for Chicago dogs can look like. A huge thank you to 93XRT, The Wiener’s Circle, Verna Bailey and every human who came out yesterday, brought their dogs, made something, bought something, donated something or simply spent part of their Saturday with MCP. Custom tees, pet portraits, hot dogs and a whole lot of dogs packed into one afternoon, all with generosity behind it. We say it all the time: ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things when we do them together. Sometimes that looks like fostering. Sometimes it’s donating. Sometimes it’s opening your business, sharing your audience, making art, or throwing a really great PUP-UP. Every bit of it gives us more capacity to keep showing up for Chicago dogs and the people who love them. We are so grateful to be surrounded by people and partners who find their own way to be part of the work. Thank you for making your circle a little bigger for ours. Love our humans. Love our dogs. Love our city.

*** Dakota. Regular people. That’s who changes the world. Not superheroes. Not people with unlimited time or unlimited resources. Just ordinary humans who decide to open their homes, their hearts, their time and believe that one life is worth showing up for. Look at Dakota. Once found wandering alone and lost... Today she’s living her best life, morning walks, all the love with our Jane and Jordan, her feline foster siblings, a canine sister, toys, grass under her feet, sunshine, and the kind of love every dog deserves. This is what fostering does. It doesn’t just save dogs. It reveals them. Every wag. Every deep nap. Every joyful walk. Every little moment is proof that compassion isn’t complicated. It’s simply choosing to care, and act upon caring. Regular people are capable of extraordinary things. Thank you, Jamie for initially bringing her in when she had nowhere to go. Thank you, Lora for giving her the space to understand the world is safe, and learn that there is room for her in it to shine. Thank you Jane and Jordan, for celebrating her greatness with open arms and adding momentum, and good lighting to her legacy. Thank you all for reminding us that the greatest transformations don’t happen because someone had all the answers. They happen because someone opened their door, and hearts. *** Hi everyone! We have the opportunity to participate in the Pet Fest area at West Fest again this year on July 18-19, and we’d love to have you representing us there in summer fun! We’re looking for 4-6 volunteers to help cover our booth, an activity station, and the welcome booth (where tickets are sold). There are two shifts each day: • 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM • 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM If you’re available to help for one or more shifts, please let: shannon@mcprescue.org know! It’s always a fun weekend, a great way to meet people, and a chance to represent MCP in the community. Thank you!

*** Oscar Once found roaming the streets of Chicago under enough matted hair to start his own weather system, Oscar has cleaned up quite nicely. This tiny Yorkshire Terrier mix believes anything is possible. Adventure? Yes. Friendship? Absolutely. Becoming the center of attention in under 30 seconds? A natural talent. He’s part explorer, part wizard, part professional best friend, and currently growing his magnificent hair back while searching for a family to call his own. Oscar doesn’t just want a home. *** 📣 Community Is a Verb—It’s the Difference Between Losing a Dog and Keeping One 📣 Several days ago, the one and only Mindy Segal, and Katie, spotted a dog running across a busy street. They safely corralled him, called us, checked for a chip, and brought him home. Our very own Janet headed over to help. Jamie immediately offered to foster if needed. 48 hours later, the family was found. There was another young large breed dog in the home too. So this Thursday, both dogs are getting fully vetted, microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered. Meanwhile, the afternoon turned into a full family affair. We built makeshift fencing so the dogs wouldn’t roam the neighborhood, worked with the children on proper leash handling and walking, and spent time together talking through safety, structure, and support. *** 💥💥Warning: Graphic Content 💥💥 Bad attitude? We think quirky and built for Rebels. Percy was the kind of dog people overlook at Chicago Animal Care & Control. Older. Crusty eyed. Grumpy. Not the easy pick. Exactly the kind of dog we notice. After Percy came into our care, we realized something deeper was wrong. Multiple vet visits later, he became lethargic and was rushed into emergency surgery. An ultrasound revealed a severely enlarged gallbladder. Veterinarians found extensive inflammation, scar tissue, and damage throughout his bile ducts. He had likely been suffering for a very long time. The odds were 50/50. But Percy still had fight in him. So we fought alongside him. Today, Percy is thriving and officially adopted by his foster family. His medical care exceeded $10,000.
