I am an insanely flawed human being with many complexes.

So are you. But relax; that’s not a tragedy. It’s the starting condition.

The tragedy is refusing to look at them.

Since it’s kinda chic to be vulnerable publicly, here’s mine.

I grew up as the ultra-nerdy, short, skinny-fat kid whose two great passions were physics and his Call of Duty K/D ratio. My friends were Bieber-haired, football-playing Chads.

Girls wanted them to date. Girls wanted me for help with math homework.

And somewhere in there, a quiet wish took root: just once, I wanted to know what it feels like to ✨ be pretty ✨ — just like my boys.

We don’t outgrow wishes like that. We bury them, and they keep steering from underground.

So years later, I did the most logical thing a physicist could do.

I entered Muž roku.

Somehow - be it by luck or by miscounted votes - I placed second. 🥈

Plot twist: I still don’t think I’m beautiful. I may not even be the second best-looking guy in my friend group, let alone a goddamn country.

But here’s what actually happened afterwards. Nobody came up to praise my jawline.
(^🧢; they absolutely did. This jawn sharper than a mf; quit playin’ w/ me 😤😤)

They talked about my energy. My humor. Charisma. (How I manage to turn every conversation into a 2-hour philosophy monologue..? 😙)

And it meant 100X more to me than any looks-related remarks I received.

Which means I spent years chasing the wrong thing. And I had to chase it all the way to a stage to find that out.

That’s how it usually works. We rarely get what we think we want. If we’re lucky, we find out we didn’t need it.

So keep your complexes. Face them. Follow them if you have to.

Just don’t let them tell you what you’re worth.
