JUST ANNOUNCED: St. Louis synth-punk @the_mall.punk takes over TV Eye on October 28th with @slashneed, Melissa, and members of @lotionmnc to DJ๐Ÿ’ฅ โ  โ  The Mall is music for punks who dance. Using sequencers and analog synths, Mark Plant fuses the shimmering, plastic qualities of โ€™80s dance electronica with the punishing, visceral energy of midwestern hardcore. The Mall soundtracks the liminal space between beauty and anger, celebration and cynicism, resilience and destruction.โ  โ  Get tickets at the link in bio ๐Ÿ”—

More Skull! I typically bring two film cameras: a point&shoot with b&w 35mm film in my pocket, and a 35mm film SLR with a decent zoom lens (that I typically run color through) around my neck. This year I also lugged a medium format pentax645 to some of the shows. Itโ€™s a sickness that grows apparently. Sometimes I get mishaps where batteries go dead and the flash doesnโ€™t fire for a whole set and I end up with blurry garbage. Sometimes they turn out sick af. And I never know for sure until later. Thatโ€™s just the nature of it. Hereโ€™s 20 shots of some of the bands and punks that Iโ€™m super happy I got to document. I have hundreds more I might share down the road but if your band played skullfest this year and you want pics from your set, send me a dm and Iโ€™ll send you what I have directly. 1. No Time 2. Deviated Instinct 3. The Kron 4. Martin 5. Guerra Final 6. Dropdead 7. Hardcore kid from tx 8. Death Side 9. Melissa 10. Jimmy 11. Nuclear Addicts 12. The Nervous 13. The Damage 14. Decomp 15. The Consequence 16. The Hell 17. Infernal Spawn 18. Sin Offering 19. Vosh 20. No Time

MELISSA, Skullfest 16, day 1, at Spirit Lodge. This set, among certain others, keeps sticking out in my memory as a highlight of this yearโ€™s skullfest. Dark, visceral, sonically brutal. The first time seeing a band live is so damn special feeling when theyโ€™re this good. Got to chat with the bandโ€™s singer a little later that weekend (@jane_____pain, whoโ€™s photography you should immediately check out) and I quickly learned that as a kid she used to run around Serenity, one of the LES squats I frequently stayed at in the mid-late 90s. And immediately I could conjure the memory of kids in that building, and her dad, who I also had crossed paths with back in the day. Little small-world moments like that make me appreciate how interwoven our lives really are in this fucked up timeline. . . . #skullfest16 #kodak400tx #shootfilmstaypunk

Photos by the very talented @jane_____pain unknowingly giving me the greatest family photos I didn't know I needed. But more importantly, documenting just how much fun and how fabulous @mollyrhinestones and @jaygambit #wedding was, because I was completely detached from my phone and took like, zero photos. Scroll to the end for the absolutely most accurate depiction of me telling anyone a story . . . . . .
