We had a great time volunteering at the Spring Tune Up barrel race in Verndale Minnesota tonight as barrel and pole setters!! It was fun to show some of us a different area of the horse industry!

Scenes from the first NCEA win in Crookston program history 🥳

So many lessons learned and small victories achieved that all allowed this moment to happen. Countless “almosts”, “so close’s”, “if they would’ves”, and “if I would’ves” on the way to this feat. Over the past 4 seasons here, this program has started 19 riders with two years or less of breed show or rated show experience, 13 in the reining with no prior experience, and a total of 20 freshmen. Each one of them has defied odds every single time they’ve competed, and they’ve moved mountains for this team every time they stepped in the pen.

This most definitely took a village, and I am forever in debt to ours. While we may sit on a campus of just 950 students in a small town of just over 7,000, we’ve never felt alone.

To any coach, athlete, or administrator at other NCEA programs who have ever lent us a kind word or cheered us on, your encouragement has never gone unnoticed and we are so thankful for the camaraderie that exists within this sport, even as we compete against each other.

To any student-athlete who has ever been apart of this program, this win belongs to all of you. I am endlessly grateful for your willingness to just try one more time, even when all the odds are stacked against you. I’ve had the time of my life working towards this moment with all of you.

To our assistant coach @lindseycmortimer , I am thankful always for the way you’ve helped changed the trajectory of our team and all the ways you help guide these girls to success every day.

To anyone who has ever helped me on any horse, whether it was for 10 seconds or for 10 years, please know that I am so thankful and that your wisdom has shaped me more as a coach than you could ever begin to imagine.

And finally, if you’ve ever told me to just keep going or not to give up, your words have always had an uncanny way of finding me when I needed to hear them most. You are the reason I had the courage to stay, and you are the reason I am still here today.

Only great things ahead, because so much is possible when you simply choose to wake up every day and believe that the best is yet to come 💛
