New music Friday! 🎶 Janet Evra @janetevra and Bria Skonberg just released “Easy with You,” a new indie-jazz waltz duet!

And a little Sheldon connection: Last spring, Janet and Bria caught up with Elizabeth Bougerol of The Hot Sardines when the band performed at The Sheldon. Sometimes the music world really is delightfully small.

Now, Janet and Bria have a new song together, and you'll get to hear them perform it live at The Sheldon on December 4!

KC, you sure know how to make a guy feel at home! ❤️🎶

What a special night celebrating the release of Magic Moments, an album featuring the music of Burt Bacharach, with the incredible Janet Evra, Dusty Carlson, and Andrew Wray at Woodneath Library Center!

Coming home to Kansas City to make music for people I love and respect, surrounded by family and longtime friends, meant so much to me. Seeing so many familiar faces brought back decades of nostalgia and happy memories. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the evening extra special!

And of course, no trip home would be complete without my mom’s famous cheese and onion enchiladas! She made a feast for the band, and let’s just say we were very well taken care of! 😂🫶

Grateful for the music, the memories, the friendships, and the opportunity to keep bringing a little KC and STL together through music.

Until next time, KC! ❤️🎹

We’re bringing Magic Moments to St. Louis and Kansas City! 🎹✨

📍 September 25 — City Winery St. Louis
📍 October 3 — Woodneath Library Center, near Liberty, MO

I had such a great time creating the arrangements for this record and shaping these songs specifically around Janet Evra’s voice and the musicians bringing them to life. That was one of my favorite parts of the whole process — taking music people already know and love, then finding new colors, grooves, textures, and musical moments that felt natural for Janet and for this band.

Magic Moments features 12 classics from the Burt Bacharach songbook, reimagined through Janet’s beautiful, distinctive voice and the sound we’ve developed together. We were also incredibly fortunate to have the legendary trumpeter Randy Brecker join us on a couple of tunes, which made the project even more special.

The trio features Dusty Carlson on bass, Jerry Mazzuca on drums, and me on piano/keys, with Andrew Wray joining us on drums for the Kansas City performance. (The album also has some excellent percussion work by @jingoloba777 !! 👊)

Janet brings so much elegance, personality, and heart to this music, and I’m really proud of what this group created together. The album feels both familiar and fresh — honoring these timeless songs while giving them an identity of our own.

Now we get to bring the record to the stage.

Come hear Magic Moments live. ❤️🎶

Kansas City — I’m really excited to bring Magic Moments: Janet Evra Sings Burt Bacharach with the Ryan Marquez Trio home on October 3rd. ✨

I had such a blast arranging this music. Bacharach’s songs are already so rich melodically, harmonically and rhythmically, and it was incredibly fun getting inside of them and finding ways to make them our own.

Making the Magic Moments album was just as much fun, and I’m especially proud that the record features a guest appearance from the legendary Randy Brecker.

For the KC show, we’ve got Dusty Carlson on bass, Andrew Wray on drums, and the wonderful Janet Evra bringing these songs to life.

We’ll be playing music from the new album and celebrating classics like Walk On By, The Look of Love, Alfie, Close to You, I Say a Little Prayer, What the World Needs Now and more.

This one is especially meaningful to me because it’s a homecoming.

When I was an elementary school kid, my piano teacher Mr. Eddie Oyer taught me What the World Needs Now. It was one of the first songs I remember really feeling. Long before I understood harmony, arranging or songwriting, I just knew that song moved me.

So getting to come back home to Kansas City all these years later with an entire album of this music feels pretty full-circle.

Saturday, October 3
7:30 PM
The Auditorium at Woodneath Library Center
Kansas City, MO

🎟️ Tickets at the link in bio.

Come spend the evening with us. I think this one is going to be really special. ❤️🎹

@janetevra and @neil.salsich perform “Girl From Ipanema” on the seventh episode of the Meet Me In Music podcast

What happens when a girl from a small town in England falls in love with bossa nova, buys a bass off Craigslist, and ends up rooted in St. Louis?

On the latest episode of Meet Me in Music, Neil Salsich sits down with award-winning jazz vocalist and bassist Janet Evra to talk about her unlikely path into jazz, the realities of the St. Louis music scene, and building an international sound from the Midwest.

Janet opens up about coming to St. Louis on a gap year from England in 2006, teaching herself bass after her husband suggested they try playing jazz together, and why singing in French, Portuguese, and Spanish became her signature.

From a teenage bedroom in Gloucester to a City Winery album release this September, this episode covers a lot of ground — the local jazz scene, the pull to tour beyond it, and the artists who shaped her along the way.

If you’re passionate about jazz, bossa nova, or stories of unlikely musical journeys, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

St Louis, I’ll be back!
…
I had the best time at the St Louis Cabaret Conference. What an awesome group of people to work with all week long! I have the honor of working with Broadway and Cabaret legends all week long. I am so grateful for my first taste of cabaret — it certainly won’t be my last!
…
Special thanks to @oconeeperformingarts and @theartsbarnllc for funding my way and to @tjschallstlouis for producing such a fantastic program!
