POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Truly my favourite part of being an artist is sharing a bit about my journey, my reasons for painting the way I do and the influences I have in my work. To share my story and those of the painters and artists I admire continues the history of art as a whole - how it all started and where it is today.
An artists voice is something so unique - just like the work they make. The influences, the life experiences and the path we choose all lead an artist to creating their very own voice - something I advocate for artists to find in my teaching. We all have something so different to say.
Yesterday I was surrounded by some of my colleges here in the Edmonton arts community sharing the influence nature on our own work - and though aspects are similar - we all have a different take, experience and reasons why nature is such a source of inspiration.

What inspires you?

What a special evening!
I feel so honoured to have been invited to be part of the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s annual Art of Nature event and to sit on a panel with five wonderful women artists.
Sharing the evening with these talented artists and talking about something so close to my heart—how deeply nature inspires our art—was truly meaningful to me. Nature has always been a source of beauty, inspiration and connection, and I feel very grateful that I can express some of that through my own art.
It was a beautiful evening filled with inspiring conversations, wonderful people and a shared love for the natural world. I left feeling reminded of just how important nature is in all of our lives—and how much we need to cherish and protect it.
So grateful to have been part of this memorable evening.

Last night I got to share the stage with some of my very favourite artists for an event titled Art in Nature, hosted by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
The important work this group does to protect and preserve our natural spaces is vital, and to have an opportunity to talk about how those spaces inform my work was a privilege I won’t soon forget.
I took my collection “Witnessing the Middle Distance” with me and talked about the need for us all to slow down and witness nature no matter how she presents.
It was a great evening and I’m grateful to all involved especially Kasia for her thoughtful curating and Dan @detoursdan for being the most gracious on stage host.

I’m inspired to get back into nature for some plein air painting very soon!

Our kids have all grown up with Anna and Elsa, and it's super special being able to see them experience the Disney magic over many years.

Naturally the boys have somewhat grown out of this phase but Bethany still loves it so we know we gotta cherish it while we still can.

We look forward to our next trip in a couple months where we can add to this video 🥰

We watched from home while momma sat front row. Love this note but even moreso how B is becoming a better reader everyday and when she gets to the "you are perfect" just gives her the biggest smile ☺️

Jungkook hasn't commented yet... It's 1 week later and @janetpaints has gotten a chin-up but not a real pull-up. Should we count this? 😅

Which will happen first? @mnijungkook comments or @janetpaints does her first unassisted pull-up this week?

Likely neither right? So I should be safe 😝😝
