Hey! I’m Janette, aka @janettebraggs ✨

I’m a 31 year old theatrical stage manager living in New York City. I’m a Virgo, a foodie, a travel enthusiast, a creative mind, a softie, an animal lover, an extroverted introvert, & sometimes, a menace to society. 😈

I like to read diversely. Black books/authors are the majority of the content you’ll see me share. But I’ve also been reading more & more books that represent the IPOC, Queer, & Disabled communities as well. Unlike some folks, I’ve never found any difficulty reading & relating to stories from other communities. 😏

My favorite genres are fantasy, romance, & fiction (contemporary & literary). I’m a huge horror movie fan, but I’ve yet to be converted into a horror book fan. I rarely read mystery/suspense (unless it’s S.A. Cosby!!!). I’m the BIGGEST mood reader, so I actively switch between genres to keep me from preemptively DNFing a book just because my mood’s changed. If it wasn’t obvious, I also happen to prefer fiction over nonfiction, but if the subject of a nonfiction book is interesting, I’ll definitely pick it up!

I am a FIRM believer in reading & all art being inherently political! The way we spend our time, the media we engage with, and the communities we are a part of makes us who we are. I joined bookstagram to find community with people who looked like me & wanted to talk about books that were FUBU! I’ve been so lucky to meet some incredible people who fit those parameters. I’ve also met people who don’t look exactly like me, or who come from different backgrounds & lived experiences. Both groups of people have made my time here feel grounded & worthwhile. 😘

And while, technically, I’ve known & been in community with my sister @bookswithjaybraggs my whole life, she is officially my perpetual buddy reader! 💕 She’s also the creative mastermind behind @coversnobbox 🙂‍↕️ So be nice to her or I’ll give you the old one two. 👊🏽💥

Threats aside (did I mention I’m the crazy middle child lol), my #bookstagram has been carefully curated to be my safe space. I hope to extend that safety to you! 💞
