POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Emily Mason began printmaking in the mid-1980s at the Tamarind Institute, sparking a decades-long journey with the medium. Mason created and experimented with monoprints and monotypes, including carborundum, chin collé, collagraphs, and solar plates.

Seen behind Mason are carborundum prints created with Master Printer Janis Stemmermann in the early 1990s; Stemmerman and Mason would continue to print together for thirty years.

Installation detail from tANJA’s Living Room featuring: ⁣
Janis Stemmermann’s Nestled Gold Butter
⁣
tANJA’s Living Room arose from a simple opposition to the white cube. Tanja’s gallery operates out of her home, which means most shows require erasing every trace of daily life, a form of sanitization, to impose that pristine gallery standard. This exhibition flips the script: the environment stays intact, and previous artists are invited to show work within it, rather than removed from it. ⁣
⁣
⁣James Autery +⁣ tANJA’s Living Room will be on view from August 29th - September 20th⁣ ⁣
Gallery hours: Fri-Sun, 12-5pm & by appointment⁣ ⁣

The full exhibition features works from Berly Brown, Dan Devine, Norman Douglas, Klemens Gasser, Liam Gillick, Jared Handelsman, Nicole Hayes, Catherine McTague, Donna Moylan, Lee Musselman, Anna Navasardian, Hunter Reynolds, Pam Poquette, Janis Stemmermann, Odette Steinert, Russell Steinert, Lawre Stone, Katharine Umsted, Arnie Zimmerman, also exhibiting parallel is James Autery’s film installation “sheet⁣ “⁣

ARTIST INSIGHT | One Work

What does a “mother tree” look like when imagined as something larger than life?

The "Mother Tree", 2025 by artist Lawre Stone, is a deep green plant form fills the canvas. Larger than life, its otherworldly leaves, stems, and exposed roots rise before a horizonless atmosphere. Thickly painted circular forms hover on the surface, a reference to botanical diagrams or perhaps to the center of a flower, and serve as a portal to an abstract world. The title refers to a mother tree, the largest and oldest tree in a forest, acting as a central hub that nurtures and communicates with younger saplings.

Visit our galleries and view ‘Phytophilia: The Love of Plants,' an exhibition by artists Lawre Stone, Janis Stemmermann, and Katharine Dufault, on view now through Sunday, September 6.

Gallery hours are Tues - Sun, 10 AM - 5 PM.
