ROAD TO ARC | 13 WEEKS TO GO

When does the desire to run further stop? 😂 my experience so far seems to say it doesn’t, so I’ve decided to sign up for the Arc of Attrition by UTMB 2027.

For those unfamiliar with this delightful little event, here’s what is to come.

• 100(ish) miles / 173km
• Over 5,500m of elevation gain
• Cornwall’s beautiful (but rather unforgiving) South West Coast Path
• The middle of January. In Cornwall. Lovely.
• A whole lot of running in the dark
• A finish rate of roughly 50%

With just over 13 weeks to go, there’s plenty of training to squeeze in, hills to climb, food to eat, questionable life decisions to reflect on and ultimately enjoyment to be had.

I’m calling this little adventure ROAD TO ARC.

I’ll be sharing regular updates along the way — the training, the highs, the inevitable lows and the journey as a whole. It’s quite a large jump in distance, so no idea exactly how this is going to play out, but that’s half the fun, isn’t it?

I won’t be standing on the start line alone. Gavin, @ontheruntom, @drjacobbrain, @gbartlett17 & @chris.parker27 will be giving this a nudge also - YEAH THE BOYS.

Anyway, best get running. Road to Arc, Let’s go!

CW42/52, season 22.
Season is almost over, at least it is changing… #5amclub is definitely a dark thing and layering up becomes more normal… anyway, always enjoy those darker, colder, quieter days/nights of the year. No blues, just rock and roll 🤘

Janji head to toe 👀, quality stands the test of time

Anybody else tormented by headwinds? Headwind up the hill, turn 90 degrees to the left up the next hill and somehow still a headwind 💨, how does that work?

THE BIG COMEBACK THAT WASN’T

2026 was meant to be the year of the comeback.
It stated well with consistent runs, nothing too crazy.
Then 8th feb long run, 15miles, changes everything.
A few days after this run I couldn’t run more than 10 minutes. I was in constant pain with my glute. Walking to work I was in agony so running got pushed back agin. Luckily a few people around me spoke to me about what I was doing and what I should probably be doing.
I was still chasing the Will from 2023. The 32 minute 10k and sub 16 5k guy. I wasn’t him and hadn’t been him for over 2 years.
It was a hard pill to swallow.
My focus turned to getting my injury sorted.
This took longer than I wanted.
3 months of 10,20,30 minute runs.
Then an easy run up to just over an hour.
I was still around 79kg, 2 years of barely running and still eating like a wild boar meant I’d added about 10kg.
70-72kg was the aim, running with an extra 8-10kg is not fun.
Finally I was getting some fitness back and very slowing loosing some weight.
Few more months of easy runs, long runs and generally focusing on building a solid base.
Now after maintaining 40-60 mile weeks with the last 3 weeks being 70+ I’m feeling like I could run forever, not only run forever but want to run forever.
Back down to 70kg and feeling decent.
2 weeks out from a 50k race.
My 1st race since 2023.
Shit the bed is the best way to describe how I feel about it all.

Autumn has well and truly arrived 🍂 And with colder, wetter days creeping in, a few extra layers are always a good idea.

New @janjiuk has just landed in store, with two additions to the women’s range:

🧥 Auras Ultrafleece Hoodie
Lightweight warmth with a soft, brushed fleece interior. Breathable and quick-drying, it’s designed to keep you warm on chilly runs without adding unnecessary bulk.

🦺 Shift Auras Lined Vest
A lightweight insulated vest with an ultrafleece lining to lock in warmth. The weather-resistant outer, zipped pockets and two-way zip make it a practical extra layer for colder days on the trails.

Both are designed to keep you warm without weighing you down, whether you’re heading out for a run or exploring the fells.

Available in store now. Pop in and have a look 👋

I think we might have gotten away with it.

Can’t blame @janjiuk for making such a good baby bag (Ultrahauler Supertote btw). Consider me influenced @runsingletrack.

14 miles in my new @runjanji half tights!

Was a test for the marathon coming up and they pass with flying colors!!

So many pockets, big enough for two 500ml soft flasks, and no chafing at all. Insane. BIG DAWG APPROVED!

Check out @runjanji @janjiuk
