Janko Nilović & The Soul Surfers — Maze of Sounds

Janko Nilović has been scoring imaginary films for decades, and here he finally gets a band that plays like the cameras are rolling. The Soul Surfers lock into a groove and stay there, with Hammond and Rhodes trading smoke, the strings hovering, and voices slipping in and out like extras walking through a scene. It's smoky, a little psychedelic, and full without ever getting crowded. It's not a period piece either. It just sounds like it remembers one. The only complaint is the running time: under half an hour, gone before you've settled in.

Verdict: Flip it once, then flip it again. It's that short and that good.

Rythmes Contemporains - Janko Nilovic (1972)
With each new record I find from Janko, the more I am certain he is a legend and should get the praise he deserves. This album is no exception. Great jazz-funk, some latin grooves and overall cinematic presence! Performed by a big band orchestra, the sound is huge and and can stand next to works by Morricone and Umiliani. Luckily I got to meet the maestro and I must confirm he is as cool as his music! Pravi čovjek! Glad to have this reissue by @brocrecordz @jankonilovic !
