We continue to come up with new proposals and ideas to make sure all workers at JARC receive a living wage. Management refuses to bargain in good faith. When asked across the table yesterday what options they had considered to get a fair contract and end bargaining (which they claim they want), their answer was literally, nothing. Management says their denial of our right to life sustaining wages isn’t about dignity. We strongly disagree. Please let JARC leadership know that this hypocrisy needs to end. Contact information and sample script included. To our colleagues and community, thank you for your continued support. JARC workers deserve dignity and a living wage. [SAMPLE SCRIPT BELOW] Hello, I am [Your Name], a community member who supports Jane Addams Resource Corporation’s mission that all workers deserve a living wage. I am disheartened to hear about the disrespect JARC workers have faced from you at the bargaining table. I am writing to request that you give these workers the fair contract they deserve. 💡 Presenter Spotlight: Math in Stitches, Presented by Jeremy Mathew and Cholpon Tuzabaeva “Math in Stitches” is a pilot program for adult learners that pairs one hour of math instruction with one hour of sewing instruction, seeking to give concrete form to mathematical concepts. As a new program, we are testing the concept with one learner, developing a curriculum that merges the two skillsets. Many adult learners are kept from attaining their GED, with the math portion of the test being the only portion holding them back. The curriculum we’re developing is meant to give hands on sewing activities as a tactile exercise to understand—not memorize—mathematical concepts. During this session, we will share results from our pilot and seek connection with other professionals in the adult education to push the pilot program towards a repeatable, structured program that teaches math skills required for the GED test through sewing projects. About the Presenter Jeremy Mathew is an artist, craftsman, and leader of the adult education program at Jane Addams Resource Corporation. He views education as a creative process, and that literacy is the ability read the world at one’s own scale and to know how to participate in the creation of it. Join us for a day of learning, connection, and practical strategies for supporting adult learners. 🗓 Saturday, April 18, 2026 ⏰ 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM 📍 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. Chicago, IL 60612 💳 $25 for tutors and literacy staff, $20 for adult learners and AmeriCorps members 🍎 Registration includes breakfast snacks, a boxed lunch, and conference materials. *vegan and vegetarian options 🔗 Register at the link in bio. This year marks 20 years of LISC’s Financial Opportunity Centers® (FOC), a network of partners delivering integrated employment, financial coaching, and income support that empower participants to set and achieve long-term life and financial goals. With the generous support of @jpmorganchase, we were proud to recognize five FOC Network members for their meaningful impact in the economic empowerment of Chicago residents. Each recipient exemplifies the innovation, agility, compassion, and excellence needed to increase financial stability across Chicago communities. These honors were awarded at our annual holiday gathering, hosted at @RevolutionWorkshop’s newly renovated Garfield Park warehouse. This space functions as a training facility where students gain hands-on experience in the trades, building skills, opportunity, and resilience through construction-based job training. Congratulations to our honorees at @institutochicago, @youthjobcenter1114 , and @jarctraining. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate their achievement!
