Today we protested at the Sydney marathon to express our fury at 40 Israelis (connected to, or members of the IDF) allowed into Australia to run in the Sydney marathon.
A sea of Palestine flags, brilliant speeches and so much solidarity from the runners turned this protest into an uplifting day to remember. We are the majority ✊🇵🇸

If we want accountability to be taken seriously, we need to be precise about where power, influence and responsibility actually sit. A significant number of international artists at so-called australian doofs have historically been israeli. But the australian festival scene is not structurally israeli-run. Owners and organisers are still overwhelmingly local.

The issue is more about influence than ownership. Our scene was born from DIY, counter-cultural roots, a space built on participation, not profit. What we've seen, relatively recently, is the influence of a specific, commercially successful israeli model: turning profound communal practice into an expensive, high-production spectacle. This influence, alongside broader capitalist pressures, has helped replicate an aesthetic, a form of spiritual cosplay, often divorcing the event from it's DIY and political heart.

We know which festivals operate under this direct influence. And our focus remains on accountability. australia is and continues to be complicit in israeli colonisation, genocide, and ethnic cleansing. Some festivals contradict their own stated progressive values by booking artists who publicly support israeli military actions, thereby amplifying that messaging.

As we have said many times before: the boycott is about holding institutions accountable for platforming artists who choose to normalise and profit from israel's regime of occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. It is not about targeting individuals based on nationality.

Finally, we must not use the horrific atrocities committed by israel to whitewash our own capacity for racial crime. australia is itself a settler-colonial project, built on stolen land and ongoing violence against First Nations peoples. Our solidarity must be consistent, and our criticism of power must begin at home, even as we fight complicity abroad.

Please use accurate language. Direct your criticism at the systems of power and capital, not simply identity.

BOYCOTT WIN

Yesterday, @skyparkcairns in Gimuy quietly dropped @infectedmushroom – one of i$rahe11s biggest hasbara musical exports - and without statement, but it's been framed due to “internal constraints.”

Today, @unibar_adl , adl followed. UniBar’s weak statement framed patron safety as the reason, instead of speaking truth to power. By sitting firmly on the fence, they fool no one. Regardless, the outcome is the same: Infected Mushroom will not be playing at @unibar_adl

Sustained community pressure made this happen, ensuring artists profiteering off genocide are not rewarded or normalised.

That’s now two venues down – 🔻SkyPark and 🔻UniBar – and six more to go.
We are just getting started...
