Ballyhack Golf Club | No. 13

There’s nothing subtle about Ballyhack.

The 13th is a perfect example of what makes this place so special. Dramatic bunkering, incredible elevation changes, wild contours, and a massive double green that looks like it was carved right into the Virginia hills.

It’s bold, intimidating, and absolutely beautiful. The kind of golf hole that makes you want to put the clubs down and pick up a paintbrush.

One of my favorite par 3s I’ve played in a long time.

The final painting in my Sweetens series.

Sweetens Cove No. 1
Oil on canvas.

I’ve painted a lot of corners of this place, but it felt right to finish the series at No. 1 — where every round begins.

A special place, and a series I’ve loved making.

A pretty special day at Sweetens Cove.

I started The Painted Round with a simple idea: combine my love of golf and art, play interesting places, paint them, tell their stories, and highlight the rituals that make this game what it is.

Getting to bring that idea to life at the Good Good King of the Mountain—painting alongside the course, watching some great golf, and meeting everyone who wandered over—felt like a glimpse of what this project is becoming.

More rounds. More paintings. More stories to come.

Now this is a post I’m excited to share…

The first prints from The Painted Round are officially here.

Seeing my paintings leave the easel and become something someone else can take home feels like a big step — and another piece of what I’m building with The Painted Round.

A way to capture the places, stories and moments that make golf special, with painting at the center of it.

It’s exciting to see that vision starting to take shape.

First stop: Sweetens Cove.

The King — No. 4
Morning on Nine — No. 9

Signed fine art prints. Available now.

Sweetens Cove No. 9 — the third painting in my Sweetens series.

What I love about this hole is how much the architecture is built around choice. Width, diagonal hazards, multiple pins and all that movement in the ground give you options — and consequences.

As the course comes back toward the clubhouse, the contours create a natural amphitheater around the finishing hole. It feels less like a green and more like a stage — perfect for a match coming down to the last shot.

Available for purchase. I’ll be bringing this painting, along with the rest of the series, to Sweetens Cove this Monday for the Good Good King of the Mountain event.
