One week ago today, I became a marathoner! 🏅🏃‍♂️

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a week since running my first Chicago Marathon!

Months of early mornings, long runs, and countless miles all led to that starting line. Coming from a lifetime of competitive figure skating, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of what it takes to prepare for a big event. But training for a marathon challenged me in an entirely different way, both physically and mentally.

Looking back on race day, I couldn’t have asked for a better start. I felt strong, confident, and prepared. Everything was going well until around mile 20, when severe leg cramps completely changed my race. The final six miles became a battle of walking, stretching, and trying to run whenever my legs would cooperate.

It definitely wasn’t the finish I had envisioned, but that’s part of taking on a new challenge. Sometimes all the preparation in the world doesn’t guarantee things will go according to plan. I’m proud of the work I put in, the progress I made, and the determination it took to cross that finish line.

A huge thank you to my wife Alexa for supporting me throughout this journey, and to my trainer Jason for helping me prepare for something completely outside my comfort zone. Having my son join me for some of those training miles and getting to share this experience with him made it even more special. ❤️

I’m also incredibly proud to have run for Team IMPACT, helping give kids who haven’t had the same opportunities the chance to experience sports and be part of a team. Being able to run for something bigger than myself made every mile that much more meaningful.

A week later, I’m still reflecting on everything this experience taught me. The marathon was humbling, challenging, rewarding, and an experience I’ll never forget.

Thank you, Chicago!

759 miles. Countless early mornings. One big goal. 🏃‍♂️

This Sunday, I’ll be taking on my first Chicago Marathon!

After spending most of my life training and competing on the ice, preparing for 26.2 miles has been a completely different challenge. Early mornings, long runs, tired legs, and plenty of miles along the way.

Some of my favorite miles were the ones I got to share with my little training partner, who occasionally joined me in the stroller. A special thank you to my wife, Alexa, for supporting me through all the early mornings, long training runs, and countless hours spent preparing for this race. Between work, family, and training, I couldn’t have done this without your love and support. ❤️❤️

I’m proud to be running for @goteamimpact , an organization that gives children facing serious illness and disability the opportunity to experience what it means to be part of a team.

As an Olympic athlete, I know firsthand how much sports can shape your life. The friendships, challenges, opportunities, and memories go far beyond competition.

The training is done. The miles are in. Now it’s time for 26.2!

Big shoutout to @jasoncarroll89 for all the guidance, planning, and support throughout this journey. Thanks for helping turn a crazy idea into 26.2 miles of preparation! Chicago, let’s do this! 💪🇺🇸

BEST weekend at wodapalooza!!!!!

It’s amazing how much learning and growth comes with every single time I compete. I am truly amazed at what we can do with our bodies if we put our heart and soul into it, and that showed this weekend. I am truly grateful to be able to participate in such a renowned event and I’m stoked at the newfound motivation I have to better myself even more after this!!!
