Morning Rush

In Morning Rush, Jason Rice looks for the fleeting moments between coming and going.

The series captures people in motion, moving through the city with the quiet urgency of the everyday. Reflections play a central role, layering streets, windows and architecture without losing sight of the real focal point: the human figure on the run.

There is a strong sense of spontaneity in these photographs. Nothing feels staged or overbuilt. The colours are present and alive, but never pushed too far, giving the images a soft portrait-like quality even when the subjects are caught in passing.

“The process of just making — it’s the doing that is super thrilling”🎙️– listen to Jason Rice reflecting about his approach to street photography and his book Overseas in a podcast by @streetphotomag 🔥

He speaks about a formative period spent in Rome and South of France — years that would quietly shape his future work as a photographer. “I haven’t even looked at these images for 25 years, I didn’t show them to anybody, maybe I was thinking just to make them, that’s it.”

Jason tells how the artistic process keeps him motivated and how he recognized his passion for photography. Find the link in stories to listen the whole episode!

Overseas is selling fast! Find your copy on 89books.com

The book is also available in various wonderful bookstores, such as

Presenting OVERSEAS by Jason Rice: a splendid collection of 90s street photography from Italy, South of France and Rhode Island🌟

“Too restless to be called melancholy but too pensive to consider joy”, in a words of Matthew Specktor, Rice’s photographs find us caught somewhere between wakefulness and dream. Evocative of Italian neorealism, these are the street scenes as Rice saw it, in all forms.

OVERSEAS: Italy, France, New York City, Rhode Island
Photographs by @jasonecir 📸📚
.
The photographs in OVERSEAS capture Rome, Italy, in the year 1990, where Jason Rice spent six weeks on the streets photographing life as he saw it, in all forms. Other parts of this book highlight photographs from his time in The South of France, where he taught photography to American students in Lacoste in the fall of 1992. There are also several images in this book taken in Rhode Island while he was a student at The Rhode Island School of Design.
.
I’m grateful to Jason who is a friend and bookseller rep, without whom, Thunder Road Books would not be where it is today. We are honored to sell OVERSEAS on his behalf!
