Working and serving in Africa at the NBA Academy Africa this year was an assignment God had prepared for me long before I realized. Previously working in the NBA with the Utah Jazz and growing up in America I was not aware of the many privileges we grow up with here. Thank God for the experience and opportunity to grow myself as a man and professional this past year in Africa.
Trust in Gods plan for you and your life. Have Faith.

African Americans are descendants of Africans who were forced into slavery after they were captured during African wars and raids. They were captured and brought to America as part of the Atlantic slave trade.

God has blessed me with the opportunity to serve those from my genetic ancestry. There is no salary, number of homes or cars, or celebrity status that compares to serving God’s children. ❤️🏀💪🏾

#WMUalumni and sports medicine expert Jasper Bibbs (B.S.′14, Athletic Training) was just featured in Muscle & Fitness-and his story is a slam dunk! 🐴 🏀🔥

When he was 18, Jasper tore his ACL, which effectively ended his chances of playing college basketball. However, that setback didn’t keep him on the sidelines. Jasper’s drive, tenacity and work ethic enabled him to achieve a new dream of working in the NBA. Being a Bronco and becoming the first in his family to graduate from college helped him along his journey, too.

As a junior at WMU, Jasper started looking into careers in sports medicine and performance in the NBA. He even sent handwritten letters to all the strength coaches letting them know he wanted to one day join the profession. Eventually, he received a response from the strength and conditioning coach for the Miami Heat, who directed him to the NBA Strength Coaches Symposium during the 2014 NBA Combine in Chicago. This led to an opportunity to volunteer with the Toronto Raptors during their pre-draft workouts.

Chris Cason wrote in Muscle & Fitness: “Bibbs made the five-hour drive from Lansing to Toronto to go through what he thought would be a day of getting his feet wet. With enough gas in his tank to make it back home that evening, Lee told Bibbs, ‘Great job! See you tomorrow morning.’ Bibbs was conflicted. Here he was with an opportunity he had been dreaming about, but he had no one he could stay with. He ended up sleeping in his car for over a month while continuing to soak up all the knowledge he could.”

Jasper soaked up that knowledge and then some. Today, he’s worked with several pro athletes across all sports. During his tenure with the Utah Jazz, he’s assisted the franchise in making five consecutive NBA playoff appearances.

This proud alumnus said he hopes his story will “inspire others, especially future Broncos, to keep God first, and to never give up on finding their true professional love and calling.”

Congratulations, Jasper! We can’t wait to see where your dream takes you next!
