Stephen Tayo (@stephen.tayo) stomps through Cotonou in ‘Il y a trois jours’, an editorial featuring staple pieces from Beninese label SYT_MIB (@syt_mib). Rooted in Benin while looking outward, SYT creates a singular wardrobe that embraces individuality and contemporary design. Through Tayo’s lens, Cotonou becomes a backdrop for a more expansive portrait of contemporary Africa: plural, vibrant and deeply alive.

Volume up.
Before an image becomes an image a lot needs to happen.
The Tableaux series was created to show La Rivière headpiece moving across different hairstyles, textures and expressions.
Making that visible meant bringing together many people, many hours, and a great deal of care.
Representation is intentional. It takes time, resources, and people willing to do the work.
This is a glimpse at some of what happened before the final portraits, and at the people who made them possible.
