SOUNDS OF VĨNH HY
Curated and produced by púpura

Following the spirit of Seeson’s The Car campaign, set against the backdrop of everyday Vietnamese life in the coastal fishing village of Vĩnh Hy, Sounds of Vĩnh Hy began as an exploration of the place through field recordings, documenting the sounds, objects, and rhythms that shape daily life there.

We spent 4 days and 3 nights travelling along the coast of Vĩnh Hy–Phan Rang, waking up early to follow the rhythms of local life, recording whatever “felt right” or caught our attention along the way (and ofc, taking every opportunity to catch the beautiful sunrise🤌).

A boat engine. The wind. Birdsong.
Waves. Stones colliding. The distant hum of wind turbines.

What started as a simple idea to document the sounds of Vĩnh Hy gradually turned into something more. We began imagining how these recordings could exist beyond the screen, allowing people to experience and interact with them in a different way.

And that’s how Sounds of Vĩnh Hy found its way to Seeson as an installation, marking our very first project under púpura.

We worked with @vuph_m to develop an interactive water installation that invites customers to play with the sounds we gathered during the trip. Through the movement of water, recordings can be triggered, layered, and combined, allowing each person to create their own composition.

Alongside it, a lightbox displays a collection of film negatives, shot on 35mm and 120 film by @javi__ne, presenting another way of revisiting the place, where light, images, and memory come together to bring back fragments of the journey.

And of course, the product design was brought to life by the one and only @duyledang__ , who always finds ways to reuse and repurpose furniture with the resources we have.

Beyond grateful to anh @deiladat for giving me the opportunity to bring this project to life🤍🌊🙏

For a decade, this car has been my faithful companion.
I’d received it from my buddy Joost, and out of hundreds of photos of this car, I find this photo captured its soul the best.
Over the years, it has witnessed the joy of thousands of children of the world making drawings on the car.
I’ve traveled to numerous places with my project, including:

- Primary schools nationally and internationally
- Secondary schools
- Special Education schools
- Nursing homes
- ABN AMRO Bank headquarters
- A multitude of different companies and organizations
- The Amsterdam Arena
- Various charities and non-profit organizations

This car has never let me down, thanks to the maintenance sponsorship provided by @snelmotorsport.
