Left a big piece of my heart in Fargo yesterday.

Nothing prepared us for the weight of actually leaving him. “Sad” doesn’t quite cover it. I felt excited for him, sick to my stomach, grateful, devastated, and so incredibly proud all at once.

And yes, I sobbed driving away. So many memories, hopes, fears, and questions about this next chapter all rolled into one. But once the tears dried, I felt a sense of peace. Without a doubt, he is exactly where he is meant to be.

Spread your wings, Jaxon. Chase your dreams, reach for the stars, and enjoy every minute. I love you more than you’ll ever know.

Even better when my husband gets in there and has the time of his life with him.

Nobody tells you how bittersweet the summer before your kid leaves for college will be.

Knowing Jaxon is a huge thrill seeker with a need for speed, I had to give him a few unforgettable surprises before he’s off to his next chapter. What started as a mom/son road trip turned into one of my favorite weekends we’ve ever shared.

We hit the road with hours of windshield time, singing everything from Elvis to Don Toliver, talking about life, laughing until our stomachs hurt, and making memories I’ll hold onto forever. A day was spent at Valleyfair—all the rides, MULTIPLE times in the scorching hot sun (thank goodness for anti nausea chewables!)😅

The next day, he thought we were headed cliff jumping. Instead, I surprised him with the opportunity to drive a Lamborghini on an international speedway—a dream adventure for a boy who has become such a car enthusiast. As a bonus, we both rode along in a Hellcat going what felt like Mach 10, at 130 mph, including a final lap where the driver looked over and said, “Don’t try this at home.”

After all that adrenaline we headed to a hidden gem I discovered…a quarry for cliff jumping and more memories neither of us will forget.

While the adventures were awesome, the best gift of all was really the time. As I watch our only kid prepare to leave for college, every moment feels a little more precious. The FINAL summer before college. The last season with us all under one roof. The last time life looks exactly like this.

So this summer, we are saying yes to the adventures, yes to making memories, and yes to being fully present.
One day, these are the days I’ll miss the most.

My heart is so full. ❤️

The last, last day of school.

Somewhere between holding Dan back from sitting on the playground all day his first day of kindergarten waiting for school to end, and this last photo we have taken in this very spot for 13 years, time slipped by way too fast.

Hearing from some of his favorite elementary teachers yesterday and seeing him walk the halls of his elementary and middle school one final time flooded back every version of that boy I’ve loved so fiercely all these years.

Loving you through these years has been the best part of my life. Time to go make a beautiful life kiddo. We are all so proud of you.
