When I stopped playing football after college i was lost. I could quite put my finger on what was wrong. I was dabbling with drugs and alcohol, and had no real direction in life. This is pretty common. Football was everything. It’s how I knew everyone, it’s how everyone knew me.

I first got motivation to train in the weight room again when my son was born. But it wasn’t until I was 30 that I found jiu jitsu. I missed physical contact. I missed the confidence that it builds. I think that if you grew up being an athlete, you very likely need something like jiu jitsu In your life. Whatever it is; it could be grappling, golf, running marathons, whatever!

I had a convorsation with @jaxon_player (who also played D1 football) he is also a very talented grappler. He made a good point that for people need to fill the vacuum within themselves that happens when your done with your sport. I think the jiu jitsu might be the ultimate way to do that!

Adult Results 🚨🚨🚨🚨

It’s Professor Trav here. Words cannot express how proud I really am of my adults yesterday, seeing their success after extra time invested in “pro training” is going to change how all programs are ran in the near future for our advanced or competitive athletes.

Melinda Mehaffey- CHAMPION 🥇. Decided to hop into the Advanced division having never done adcc rules. Melinda is an amazing example of a student who believes in the system and a leader on the mats congratulations champ 🙌🙌🙌.

Michael Ottinger- On the men’s side of things, I was most impressed by Michael Ottinger. His ability to listen, adapt, and be coachable really impressed me more than anything. 3 victories in a STACKED bracket, and going the distance with some very established competitors 🔥. He finished 7th in a 24 man bracket. After what I saw yesterday, I believe the future is very bright ✨

Ant Ripley- Your determination, effort, and athleticism are all there. This was our first big tournament since you have become a student, we are still figuring out your game and trying to work out several bad habits. With that said you’re a beast brother, you took 4 victories in a stacked bracket and finished 4th. Even better days are ahead, we just gotta work even harder. 💪🏻

Janai Dones - You were amazing. 5 victories on the day. All going the distance. Your competitive edge and all the qualities in a great competitor are there. Now we just gotta make you a finisher. 5th in a 38 man bracket 🤯🤯🤯

Jaxon Player- 🥈. You’re an unstoppable force and a walking highlight reel. Going forward I expect all Gold. We gotta figure out the cardio. Then I think you will be one of the best in the world at heavyweight. Your a scary dude

Melissa Cantu- 🥉. Whether it’s being a teammate or a competitor. You show up ! You have worked so hard. Myself and all the coaches are very proud !!
