@shimokita.space has always been one of the places leading the way as the cultural hub of Subang. We spoke with @jay.hajime to discuss how he cultivated the culture around Shimokita Space and found inspiration through movies, burgers, and the spirit of Shimokitazawa itself.

Our resident writer and stylist took @apple’s new AirPods Max 2 and its upgrades for a spin around town.

Inspired by its icy blue finish and well-rounded audio, we shot what the city might look like in Apple-technicolor—a little more cinematic, with a soundtrack to match. One of the best accessories to date that delivers both style and sound.

As a creative who grew up in the era of console games, this campaign feels deeply connected to my own memories of being at home, playing Tetris® on the Brick Game handheld consoles I bought from a small game shop in my hometown. Looking back on those moments now fills me with a warm sense of nostalgia.

Having experienced apartment living abroad, being influenced by the distinctive colour palettes of American films, and drawing inspiration from Ernest Hood's ‘At The Store’ song, a piece that evokes vivid childhood memories for me, everything seemed to align naturally as I approached the photoshoot for Kapten Batik's latest collection with its cross-border collaborator, Tetris®.

I wanted to explore how Tetris® is perceived in modern times and, more interestingly, how it could be interpreted through batik craftsmanship. Through my team, I was connected with Jay and Aidan, two young creatives whom I invited into this visual narrative. Together, we aimed to portray a sense of uncertainty and an oddly compelling relationship between them and the iconic retro game.

The blocks existed physically rather than digitally, coexisting within this 70s-inspired interior as a metaphor for the intersection of space, time, and culture. The result was a nostalgic retro-modern introspection.

Credit goes to my creative team for constantly exchanging ideas with me, and to the entire crew who helped bring this project to life.

Directed and shot by me for Kapten Batik x Tetris™.
