Did you hear that *sigh* at the end…🫠

That’s what Balm is here for.

You.

With less to do and more room to feel.

Even as I create these experiences for us, I often catch myself in the old familiar pattern of scarcity thinking and nervous adding.

Should I add another element? Do people need more? I feel a pull to fill the space.

What I keep learning through Balm is how much that space matters, because it is oh so rare.

To have a break from the constant barrage of outside information. To notice a feeling. To linger with the music. To sink in and savour being in a moment without having to rush to whatever comes next.

Together we’re learning to trust that more isn’t always what we need.

Balm guests tell me that less lets them feel, acknowledge, and appreciate how much is already here. We are already whole and worthy.

In a world where more is more, and more is still not enough…

Less really lands.

🫶 Karen

Event: BALM: Soul Care Sunday
Place: Pluto: Fourth Space for Community, Co-Creation, & Coworking

I had the honour of photographing a beautiful event created by, @karenchoi.co

About Balm:
Imagine a concert of classical and jazz music in a sound bath setting where you can rest and feel all the feels. Balm creates restorative live music gatherings that make room for your inner life. Through movement, breath, live music, poetry, and rest, we give feelings space to be felt without rushing to explain or fix them.

What Balm means to Karen:
Do you know the feeling when you’re lying in bed listening to music by yourself. And you feel EVERYTHING? I feel so connected to myself, the greater good, and God/Universe/Divine. It’s an overwhelming feeling of wonder, awe, beauty, compassion, and connection to unconditional love. And I wanted to make that a communal experience. My hope is that creating room to meet ourselves with care expands our compassion for others, making the world a little kinder and more beautiful.

The Musicians
Jay Yoo on guitar and Harrison Argatoff on saxophone brought the experience to life through a blend of jazz, classical, and improvisational sounds. Their music created space to slow down, reflect, and connect with whatever feelings arose.

DM: @karenchoi.co for more information on the upcoming events
DM: @jay.m.yoo @harrisonargatoff.music to discover more of their work
DM: @enterpluto to learn more about the space and how you can become a member.

I love that music can make room for it all.

The ache of missing someone.
The joy of remembering them.
The moments you wish you could step back into.

Feeling happy and sad at the same time.

Bittersweetness can act like a balm. So does remembering to cherish the love that’s here, now.

That’s what I hear in In My Life by The Beatles.

Thank you to Jay Yoo and Harrison Argatoff for helping us make room for it all at Soul Care Sunday.

An invitation to make space for your inner life. To meet what’s here with tenderness, and carry that love into whatever comes next.

What do you get from this song?
